Israeli combat soldiers walk along the Israeli northern border with Lebanon. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is pursuing a new round of Middle East diplomacy as the Lebanon conflict moved into its 19th day, with Israel and Hezbollah exchanging firepower and threats in defiance of international moves toward a ceasefire
What do I know? I thought the 24 hour cease fire was for a specific area. Makes sense to me.
Yes...I am praying also that Israel has more "proof" ..but, you know what???
It won't matter...we had the whole world swearing there were WMDs in Iraq....and now look...
It is all sleight of hand over there...now you seem them, now you don't.

Photos of dead children......very graphic...I could not look past the second photo.....
Did you see the India condemns Israel story... 'demands' ceasefire? Of all people.

I'm sorry, I just can't believe this one. Looks like we'll end up picking up the slack one way or another.
I vote that we never fly anywhere to help anyone again... or give for the humanitarian effort... let the Muslim world do it.
ISRAEL today suspended air strikes in southern Lebanon for 48 hours while it investigates the Qana bombings, US State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said.
"Israel has agreed to a 48-hour suspension of aerial activity in south Lebanon," Mr Ereli told reporters after talks between US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and top Israeli officials.
Israel would also coordinate with the United Nations on a 24-hour period of "safe passage" for civilians that wish to leave the area, Mr Ereli said.

Worst move Israel could make.
Absolute worst.
Hezbollah will be able to move out of or into southern Lebanon at will, despite three weeks worth of work to prevent precisely that.
Olmert's the wrong guy to have in there right now.
48 hours... Unbelievable. Just let them bring more stuff in... while they rocket you.
Thank you.
I agree
Will they bring aid to Israel as well during the ceasefire?
I thought not.
US: IAF to suspend activity over Lebanon for 48 hours
Israel agreed to a 48-hour suspension of aerial activity over southern Lebanon after it bombed a Lebanese village on Sunday and a number of children died, a US official said.
The attack marred US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's weeklong mission to halt the fighting between Israel and Hizbullah.
The suspension of over-flights was announced by US State Department spokesman Adam Ereli. He said Israel has reserved the right to attack targets if it learns that attacks are being prepared against them.
"The United States welcomes this decision and hopes that it will help relieve the suffering of the children and families of southern Lebanon," Ereli told reporters traveling with Rice.
Israel had not yet confirmed the American report.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Rice met Sunday night and discussed the IAF attack and conditions for a cease-fire, including the proposed deployment of an international force there, an official said.
During the meeting, Olmert's military secretary, Gadi Shamni, briefed Rice about the Qana attack and explained that Hizbullah had used the town to fire rockets at Israel, the official said on condition of anonymity because the two-hour Olmert-Rice talks in Jerusalem were private.
The official provided no details about the conditions for a cease-fire or the deployment of a peacekeeping force that were discussed.
The official and Olmert's office both said the fate of the disputed Shaba Farms territory was not talked about.
Israel has not ruled out withdrawing from the area, and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni is not opposed the discussion of the territory as part of negotiations for a long-term cease-fire arrangement, an official in her ministry said.

I'm freeping Rock Plaza for Chrissy's show tomorrow... if I have to do it alone.
Ooh, me, me, me... hand up.
Where is sofa? I haven't seen him post, hope he's o.k.
I'm numb Ali, just numb.
There may not be planes in the air but I think they have other ways to monitor Lebanon ie: satellites and drones
I fear how this will look in the Arab world. Israel blinked and the U.S. helped them blink.
Mount an infantry action without air support? I think not.
One of the dead children had what looked like a father crying over the body..
The MAN was in clean clothes....what does THAT tell you?
Pardon me for being cold BUT considering the fact they were "victims" of a building collapse, why aren't their heads crushed and why the lack of blood on their bodies? Reason, think back to every photo of earthquake victims and the mangled, bloodied state of the corpses? Why are the bodies being held up to the cameras as if they were trophy fish?
Artillery will probably be used mostly.
