First, Rinold has to put a stop to rolling blackouts before we can even dream of electric cars.

The Tesla Roadster goes from zero to 60 in four noiseless seconds, has a top speed of 135 mph and can roam for more than 200 miles before needing a recharge. How long does it take to recharge one of these puppies? If it's more than 15 minutes, then you're effectively limiting yourself from driving no more than 100 miles from home. The joys of owning a roadster are to go on road trips... unless they can extend the mileage you get on one charge, or find a quick way to recharge, this will be a bust.

This is great news, since we have such an abundance of generating capacity and electricity is so cheap in CA.

Sweet ride. Once that sticker price comes down, I'm in.

I see nothing in that article that indicates any relationship between Tesla Motors and the legendary Nikola Tesla, no mention of any of Nikola's technology being present, etc. Is this simply a ripoff of the name?

135 Kw motor....hmmm. I'm thinking they should cut the power down to say 95 Kw, double the battery pack, build a mini-van and cut the price in half.
Now a $30,000 mini-van that has a range of 400 miles and does not cost any gas. That just might appeal to some folks.

I'd consider one. My car needs are pretty much restricted to two 100-mile drives a week and garaged the rest of the time.
Anyway, I figured out a way to beat the system. I'll put one of those Honda generators in the trunk.
What?

If I were a memeber of OPEC, I would be starting to feel a leetle bit uncomfortable. This is a good start.

Why does the mileage ruffle anyone's feathers? Just drive one of these sweet rides down to the Philadelphia shipyard, wiggle your nose and *W*H*A*M* ..... you're in another part of the country. With any quantum luck you'll be someplace you've always wanted to visit ... all on one charge!
[any references to the Philadelphia Experiment in this post are mere coincidence]
