The Republican Study Committee circulated a letter calling on House leadership to refrain from bringing to the floor any legislation that would increase the minimum wage.

Yes, another fine LEFTIST idea -- raise the cost of doing business. Drive more business offshore. The libs can only see votes and taxes. There is nothing else in their myopic little socialist world.

I disagree with this. I would like to see the minimum wage indexed to inflation with yearly increases to reflect this.

My math tells me this minium wage would provide $15,000 a year to a worker, $7.25/hr X 40 hrs/wk X 52 wks/year.

That has to be patronization if not anything else. I'll help you out of poverty; congradulations on your new salary of $15,000/yr!!!

Who makes $5.25/hr anyway? 6 years ago in high school, I made $6.50/hr at a pharmacy. The minimum wage is worthless. It forces employers to pay more for substandard work. I they paid so bad, no one would work for them. In order to make changes like this, shouldn't you prove that the problem exists and it widespread??? I want to see all these works making $5.25/hr and those that will benefit from this.

Yeah, the RSC is great.

I did hear Rush say yesterday that he heard Republicans are going to push for a minimum wage increase and try to make it their issue. He said more to come on that later.

If they do, I guess I'll have to re-register as an Independent.

Idiots...

How ironic that Dims try to act like Republicans to fool folks into voting for them, and Republicans turn around and try to act like Dims for supposedly the same reason.

I would like to see the federal government stop suppressing market wages by inviting illegal labor into the country, and by incorrectly blaming inflation on higher wages.

(Having not read the letter...)

What they should do is tell the House to delete the minimum-wage statute.

It would also eliminate alot of "illegal" problems, never mind be fair.

C'mon let's just start all over and say - $100 per hour minimum. That'll close the border!

A principal reason for this is an infusion of Money into Social Security. Those earning MINIMUM WAGE pay little or NO INCOME TAX.

However, they pay Social Security on every dollar they earn!

INDIVIDUAL INCOME TAX PAYERS:
Top 5% pay 55% of the total.
Bottom 50% pay <4% of the total.

In my opinion, agreeing or disagreeing with a minimum wage increase is not the point. In view of the exhorbitant salaries claimed by all of Congress, how can they have the nerve to tell Working People what they should or should not be paid. If they are really so concerned about the everyday Janice & Joe, they should clean up their own house before attempting to straighten up ours...
