"I consider it a tragedy," said President Bush, "that the party of Abraham Lincoln let go of its historic ties with the African American community. For too long my party wrote off the African American vote, and many African Americans wrote off the Republican Party."
I reject his contention that it is somehow the fault of "the party of Abraham Lincoln" that 90% of blacks vote for the raving raging Demagogues of the Demagogic Party. I gagged over his words pasted above, and I still choke on them now. He makes it sound as though it's the fault of the Rs that vicious pandering leftist pols have managed to raise a couple of generations of blacks who mostly want to live on the Democrats' plantation. I reject that contention, no matter who says it.

While its not the fault of Republicans, the GOP didn't really maintain the emphasis on civil rights that it had in the 1860's. By FDR's time, they had the stereotype of being rich and aloof.
