US sanctions two India firms for transfers to Iran

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration has decided to impose sanctions on two Indian firms for missile-related transactions with Iran, U.S. officials told Reuters on Thursday.

The disclosure came hours after the U.S. House of Representatives late Wednesday overwhelmingly agreed the United States should sell nuclear technology to India and rejected a move by critics to delay the vote over concerns New Delhi had not sufficiently aided U.S. efforts to contain Iran.

Under terms of the U.S. Iran- Syria Non-proliferation Act, "we are going to report to Congress about transactions by two private Indian companies with Iran," one official said.

He and another official declined to identify the firms but one official said the transfers involve "dual-use items related to missiles."

While the administration is mandated by law to report violations of the act to Congress every six months, sanctions are discretionary but "they won't be waived" in these cases, the other official said.

The officials did not specify the exact sanctions to be imposed but in previous cases, sanctioned companies were barred from receiving U.S. government contracts, assistance or military trade as well as certain controlled goods which have both civilian and military purposes.

Congressional critics had accused the administration of withholding any conclusive word on possible sanctions until after the vote on the nuclear deal, so the issue would not affect the vote.

The nuclear agreement is viewed as the cornerstone of an evolving new strategic alliance between India and the United States, former Cold War adversaries.

The administration has repeatedly defended India as having an excellent record of protecting sensitive technology.

According to lawmakers, the United States since 2003 has filed at least eight non-proliferation sanctions against at least seven Indian companies or persons, including two sanctions in December 2005. The new sanctions would add to that tally.

Let's see, i am raking in well over 6 figures a year.

I don't care if China gets nuclear deal or not, what I am posting about is how the INdians are proliferating and yet we give them the nuke deal (which somewhat does "limit" the nuclear expansion of India via various UN monitor means, but we all know that doesn't quite work).

Your reply shows just how badly educated Indians are - i am sure your mom (nothing more than a sali kutti) is proud of you.

"As for me working in China, I do, so?"

You do realize that most private firms in China has connection to the CCP and you're simply helping those that you claim to hate to grow more, don't you? Again, you're nothing more than a hypocrit.

As far as your comment on food - in India, you have 250 million people go to bed nightly hungry. If you're complaining about people who eat dogs, look at your own neighborhood - they got NOTHING to eat, not even rats because they worship rats.

Any evidence to this "100 millions of dalits" murdered? Sounds like your stat is as slanted as your eyes. And are you a dalit?

"
BTW, I am anti-Indian because:

1. They never clean up their yards in the neighborhood, not even mowing their lawn. The worse yards in the neighborhoods are all Indians. Then there is that smell...

2. They come to the US and instead of making the economy grow in the US (like most other Asians do), they immediately outsource the jobs to India.

3. Indian managers are the worse male-chauvinistic pigs around - ask any women who has ever worked for an Indian.

Need I say more? "

Some of these are true. Lol

Dude, Article is about a private company supplying raw materials to Iran. (Not missile technology!). Don't forget private companies from U.S engaged in that kind of transaction's before. This can't be called as a proliferation by Indian government anyway. And India is a democracy, not a dictatorship so it is difficult to order private companies to stop trading with Iran without a solid reason.

Proliferation means governmental or semi-governmental collusion in spreading WMD to other states. Any "dual-use items related to missiles." is dual-use. Is it wrong, yes, but were they deliberately trying to sell WMD to Iran, no. Not like the CCP selling nukes to Pakistan to keep INdia occupied. Tough luck that the Pakis turned around and sold those nukes to NOrth Korea....
