It should be remembered that the Presidency of Lebanon is a figurehead position.

Lahoud is well-hated in Lebanon because he was a Syrian lapdog during the civil war. He was mocked in the Lebanese press for hanging out at a hotel pool in a Speedo on the day that Rafik Hariri (who was assasinated by the Syrians) was buried - almost every other political leader in Lebanon was in attendance to show their respects.

He basically represents the pro-Syria element in Lebanon and is a lame duck - his term ends in a few months and he has no chance of reelection.

He is of Syrian Christian and Armenian Christian descent.

I don't think that even as President he has the authority to speak for the government as to if it supports Hezbollah. However, it's long past time that the government openly declares a side.

Bush, Bolton, and Rice need to make that completely clear.

There's no point in "disarming" Hezbollah and propping up the Lebanese army if the two are allies.

Have their government pick their side according to how their constitution dictates they should do so, and then either they stand against Hezbollah, or they face the consequences of being a sovereign nation which attacked another sovereign nation.

This conflict should not end until Hezbollah's forces in Lebanon unconditionally surrender, and if that includes the government of Lebanon, then that's the choice they made.

I believe that Lahoud is nominally Christian - but he is not a Maronite like most Lebanese Christians.

The significant thing about him is that he was Syria's main guy in the Civil War.

He is only President because Syria demanded that the Lebanese Parliament reinstate him in 2004, before the Cedar Revolution.

There we go - the Lebanese people deserve the suffering they're enduring - they, through their representative government SUPPORT Hezbollah.

Bomb Lebanon until the rubble bounces!

Emil Lahoud's father Jamil Lahoud was apparently a Syrian Orthodox Christian. His mother, Adrienne Bajakian, was a French-educated Armenian Orthodox Christian.

I assume that Lahoud was baptized into his father's church, as was the custom then, but I seriously doubt he even claims to be a practicing Christian - his religion is for all practical purposes doing whatever Syria wants him to do.

Emil Lahoud is not a representative of the Lebanese people. He is only President because the Syrians made the Lebanese Parliament name him President in 2004. And the Presidency is a ceremonial role in Lebanon, not an executive one. His term ends in a few months so he can say whatever insane crap enters his head without worrying about his job. His job is already gone.

Lebanese President Emil Lahoud said today that he supports the Hizbullah terrorist organization.

I guess Lahoud is a terrorist.

"I support the Hizbullah because they liberated our land," Lahoud said

As do how many of those "Americans", all of whom coincidentally just happened to be '"visiting family" that we evacuated into the U.S. complete with complimentary and pc medical and vet checks?
