Your gratuitous insult in posting the above link to a good FReeper who's just had his life saved by one of the dogs which you arbitrarily despise is typical of FreeRepubic's arrogant social fascist minority.

The reason she posted that link is because kanawa asked how her dog is, and those posts are the latest update on (guess what?) her dog's condition.

I think you owe the lady an apology.

Well used personal perogative.

Thanks for the inspiration, kanawa. Now, be more careful from now on! (I can't help acting like a mother)

Wow, fantastic story! Sure ruined the makings of a good bear rug, lol!

Ah, but the stitches repairing the knife holes would be conversation starters!

Lord, have mercy! That's one scary picture, dude. I see doggy there at the top of the picture too, standing watch.

Congrats on being a dog-lover. Actually, I have a little dog that was sent to me from God, too. She is about seven years old, now, and she's a little toot. I can't think of losing her. I had found her on the side of the road 6.5 years ago - somebody dumped her. She wouldn't get in my car, I had to pick her up and put her in. She has been a good little pal to me and to the rest of my family over the years. I truly think she was sent as an answer to prayer.

Congrats again, big guy. Way to go!

Thank God the man is alive!

That should be "Thank God you're alive." It's kanawa who did this!

I had a friend who had 2 standard poodles. They are big strong smart dogs. I could be wrong, but I believe they were originally bred as hunting or working dogs?

Your love for your dog touches me very much. And what a great dog Sam is! I am so glad that you are both ok. Thanks for sharing the story

Ditto that :)

This is the greatest (personal) FReeper story I've ever read on FR.

Poodles were originally bred as hunting dogs. The goofy haircuts you see on them are a poofed version of a method for the dog's owner to separate his dog from other poodles that might be hunting.
The AKC no longer classifies the standard as a hunting dog. Kind of a shame. They are indeed powerful, smart (to the point of being hard-headed), and work for the owner, not themselves.
I know one couple who had a standard. Heckuva nose. I took the dog for a walk in the woods-dog was naturally working the trail in front of me.
Saw the dog chase a deer once. Once the dog noticed the deer was running at a right angle, the dog changed his track to intercept the deer (i.e., the deer's movement was along two legs of the triangle, the dog took the hypoteneuse ). Pretty impressive for a dog that had no training as a pup.
