LOL.

Maybe for Alan Keyes Universe, they DID de-dupe the lists, leaving only the sure marks.

What first piqued my interest long ago was noticing MCDC were a"grassroots" organization with little ability to get their act together-but knew how to sign up with a professional money processing company that would collect and disburse their incoming $. (The same one Lance Armstrong's org and other cancer nonprofits have used.)

Apparently someone saw that this grassroots organization was generating intense interest and "sold" them on the benefits of using the professional company. I still don't understand why the "professional" company can't or won't produce a financial report, however.

It appears that non-profits have to file reports with the IRS, but so far I can't find anything about the MCDC by searching that website - which is consistent with these newspaper reports saying that it doesn't have non-profit status yet. I did find this line, which may indicate why the MCDC isn't listed, but may not:

Subordinate units that are included in group exemption letters are not listed separately. However, the listing for the central organization indicates that contributions to subordinate units covered by the group exemption are also deductible.

It could be that MCDC is operating under Declaration Alliance's exemption, but the Declaration Alliance isn't showing up under the search of tax-exempt organizations either, although The Declaration Foundation does. The two organizations are closely related but I'm not certain what the difference is.

I found a "Form 8871 - Political Organization Notice of Section 527 Status" on the IRS search page. It gives the purpose of DAPAC as

To support efforts that increase public awareness and knowledge regarding the principles underlying the Declaration of Independence, but not to expressly advocate the election or defeat of any clearly identified candidate for public office.

Compare this with :

About DAPAC
Declaration Alliance PAC is the official campaign and ballot initiative arm of the tax-exempt Declaration Alliance.

The goals of DAPAC for 2006 are simple and straightforward:
  1. To defeat partisan Democrats, especially hard-core, leftwing liberals like Senators Robert Byrd and Harry Reid, and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

  2. To support endangered, scapegoated, anti-establishment conservative incumbents in Congress like Tom DeLay and Tom Tancredo, who have fought hard to stay true to our bedrock values and principles.

  3. To recruit real conservatives who can challenge, politically frighten, and eventually REPLACE RINO, "Money-Is-God" incumbents like John McCain, Arlen Specter, Mike DeWine, and Chris Shays.

  4. To pass pro-life, pro-family, anti-tax, pro-sovereignty, pro-traditional values, anti-big government, pro-property rights, pro-second amendment legislation and ballot initiatives across the U.S.

  5. To retake the leadership of the GOP where it has been captured by pro-abortion, anti-family, pro-tax, antimilitary, pro-big government, anti-gun rights, "open borders" liberals in "blue states" like California, New Jersey, and Illinois.

Something looks a tiny bit deceptive to me.
