Minutemen skeptical of ties with Keyes project (Funding Questions)
The Washington Times ^ | 7-20-06 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 07/20/2006 12:08:29 AM PDT by Anti-Bubba182

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps calls itself a "project of the Declaration Alliance," although few MCDC volunteers know what the alliance does or why Minuteman donations are routed through the charity founded and headed by conservative activist Alan Keyes.

Several Minuteman leaders and members questioned the wisdom of ceding control over fundraising to the Herndon-based Declaration Alliance, part of an intricate weave of conservative organizations founded and chaired by Mr. Keyes or tied to longtime Keyes associates working with MCDC.

MCDC President Chris Simcox told The Washington Times that the alliance offers "an experienced organization for mass mailings, advertising and public relations" and the ability to conduct a "fully accredited and independent audit" of MCDC finances.

Mr. Simcox said he "checked these people out very carefully before agreeing to work with them" and that he made the "correct decision" in hiring "clean professional consultants, accountants and media professionals." He did not, however, disclose during an interview last week or in a 3,961-word follow-up statement how much Declaration Alliance and its affiliated organizations have been paid for their services

During the interview, he said, "Not one cent of MCDC money has been spent on alliance projects." The statement, released on the MCDC Web page, www.minutemanhq.com/hq/, does not mention Declaration Alliance or Mr. Keyes. ...."

"..Diener Consultants first contacted the Minuteman organization in early 2005, said Ms. Hair, the MCDC spokeswoman who also was a top adviser to Mr. Keyes in his presidential and senatorial races. She said she called Mr. Simcox after the Minuteman group was created to ask whether he had a media plan. After being told no, she said, she met with Mr. Simcox and Minuteman co-founder James Gilchrist in Washington and signed an agreement...."

"The Robert Morris Group lists contacts on its Web site (www.robertmorrisgroup.com) as Craig Bergman, Sarah Gossman, Devon Shaw, EV, Jack Roher and Jim Pfaff. All these individuals were at one time employed as either Warner for Governor or Mountaineer Fund employees, according to campaign finance reports."

Lanie is an activist in her own right and is not of the "follower" temperment. She may have gone to some of the border events with Simcox and Gilchrist years ago.

She burned Mexican flags at the Mexican consulate the saturday before the big MayDay pro illegal march and burned flags in the park with the pro illegal crowd encircled around her and the cops protecting her group. There is video of the events at the KVOA website.

Her site is here.

I'll bet your buds over at the ACLU and Vigilante Watch really enjoy her groups's statements.

My name is EV, long-time national
political director for Dr.
Alan Keyes. I've been active in the NRST movement
for well over a decade.
You can ask Tom Wright or Frank Davis (of the
National Retail Sales Tax
Alliance) about me.

I'm working night and day for Jim Gilchrist's
election (sixteen to twenty
hours a day, most days). One of the chief reasons
I'm willing to do so is
that he strongly supports the FairTax.

Watch the video. It's mostly retired folks. Probably like you, but they actually protest.

Yes Gilchrist ran as a Constitution Party Candidate. I believe that if we looked a little deeper we would find linkages to both the Minutemen and the Keys groups to the CP.

Guidestar says that contributions to the Declaration Alliance are NOT tax deductible.....

Right. Because they are not a 501c3 organization.

Not *positive* about that but I believe there was the implication that donations to the MCDC, at least for the fence, are or would be tax deductible. I could be wrong.

If the materials were donated, they would be a deduction.

"The Austin Chronicle saying she gets an "intellectual and political orgasm" from spying on pro-immigration groups. In that interview, she accused one pro-immigration activist of inserting chants of "White Power!" into an audiotape of Minuteman rallies to discredit the movement."

Interesting link between her and Simcox in that she was among the first to join him in Arizona when he set up his Civil Homeland Defense group.
