A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 7.19.06
yahoo.com, whitehouse.gov ^ | Wednesday July 19, 2006 | GretchenM

Posted on 07/19/2006 3:22:36 PM PDT by GretchenM

Defying the will of Congress (remember these votes in November!), President Bush sent a veto message (read the president's message here), that he would not sign HR 810, the "Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005."

President Bush addressed the situation in Lebanon while meeting with members of Congress in the White House.

Secretary of State Rice met at the State Department today: New Zealand's Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peres, and Belgium's Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht. Next week she is scheduled to attend Southeast Asia's top security forum.

outrageously hideous?

I keep the votes in a favorites file as soon as I find them. I agree with you.

I didn't see the post, but I can well imagine it. I got on a thread about this earlier and the hate was palpable (for Bush).

I had to turn off the computer and open the window to get the hate out of the room.

I think it's cool that Tony's admirers and the frozen embryo babies are both called Snowflakes. Very fitting.

The House just sustained the veto. The vote to override failed to reach the required 2/3. 235-193

Pundits keep quoting that a majority of Americans are in favor of government funded embryonic stem cell research, but Taranto put the names of some Senators and how they voted in his commentary today.

We do wonder, though, if this really is as winning an issue as Bush's foes think it is. Of the five Republican senators generally considered vulnerable in November, only Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island voted "yes." Jim Talent of Missouri, Conrad Burns of Montana, Mike DeWine of Ohio and Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania all voted against the bill, as did Jon Kyl of Arizona and George Allen of Virginia, whom the most optimistic Democrats also think they have a chance of defeating. Only one Democrat, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, voted "no," and he also is up for re-election this year and is regarded as vulnerable.

Some of these Senators would have voted "no" even if they were not up for reelection, but some may be responding to their constituents.

I had to go out - which was welcome inspite of the 100+ temp. Was this the thread you were on? BDS was running rampant on that thing. President Finds His Veto Pen (embryo stem cell research)

MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS OUR COURAGEOUS AND HONORABLE PRESIDENT!

FYI: Both C-Span and C-Span2 will re-broadcast the 'veto' ceremony tonight . . . You will find the actual times at
http://inside.c-spanarchives.org:8080/cspan/schedule.csp

MUST READS . . .

Two AWESOME commentaries from THE ANCHORESS:

. . . These boys and girls are not spare parts,” he said of the children in the audience. “They remind us of what is lost when embryos are destroyed in the name of research. They remind us that we all begin our lives as a small collection of cells.”

The measure, which the House of Representatives passed in May 2005, allows couples who have had embryos frozen for fertility treatments to donate them to researchers rather than let them be destroyed.

Bush said, “If this bill were to become law, American taxpayers would, for the first time in our history, be compelled to fund the deliberate destruction of human embryos, and I’m not going to allow it.”

Good for you, Mr. President. No wonder they hate you so much. Glad you’re willing to endure it.

You can read the entire commentary at
http://theanchoressonline.com/2006/07/19/embryonic-stem-cells-embryonic/

. . . Someday, when the current fever of hate and the trend to mendacity has faded…in a saner world…right-thinking people will look back and realize that this president - THIS president - has not been an evil, moronic, malevolent and war-mongering dictator but one of the greatest humanitarian presidents in the history of our nation. It may not happen in Bush’s lifetime, but Dr. Martin Luther King said, “a lie can’t last.”

Which reminds me - this is an excellent reminder of some truths about Pres. Reagan and Pres. Bush.

I hope this soldier is able to give this gift to the president, who deserves to hear a damn “thank you,” once in a while. And thanks to Sally for sending it my way!

[Note: The commentary includes a larger photo of the 'rug' photo that was posted here last evening!]

THE ONLY EXIT STRATEGY
by Charles Krauthammer

WASHINGTON -- There is crisis and there is opportunity. Amid the general wringing of hands over the seemingly endless and escalating Israel-Hezbollah fighting, everyone asks: Where will it end?

The answer, blindingly clear, begins with understanding that this crisis represents a rare, perhaps irreproducible, opportunity.

Good. We'll have proof of their votes and can get them out of office. I will be VERY disappointed in any R that does vote like that.
