Right now the credibility of the Prime Minister and the government is on the line. If they don't achieve their objectives, then Israel's security situation will grow even worse. The political future of both the PM and Defense Minister are riding on a successful outcome to this war and they're counting on the IDF to deliver.

It was one right before the commercial break. I don't know if it meant a ground invasion or not.

That's good to hear, but if they want the launches to cease they will have to have boots on the ground in Lebanon to clean out the cockroaches.
I'm thinking sometime between Monday and Wednesday for a ground assault to launch as long as Olmert doesn't lose his water.

Israel has no intention of being dragged into a regional war. It may come to the point where she has no choice but to engage Syria. As for Iran, that threat is also going to be dealt with and destroying Iran's nuclear assets is not a simple matter. I'm sure the IDF is working on a plan that will neutralize the danger to Israel.

'latText' message popup now gone! thanks again!

... it told the media that ball-bearing packed warhead that hit Syria was developed in Syria.
Have a link? I haven't heard of this one, and a search brought only unrelated articles on FR.
Thanks!

I have all the faith in the world in the IDF, but Olmert has already moved the goalposts once by dropping the insistence on resolution 1559 being implemented prior to the IDF halting their offensive, but as you pointed out, the Lebanese really can't accomplish that so they may be simply bowing to reality in the situation by dropping that demand.
I just do not have much faith in Olmert and his government at this time.

"It will be impossible to stop all of Hezbollah from going to Syria but I'd be interested to know what roads exactly and where have been bombed so at least they can't drag all their missiles with them."Remember the 'Highway of Death'?
I'd like to see Israel use only long range weapons to roll Hizbolla back and out into the Bekka - then smoke the entire valley (screw the WMD - you reap what you sow).
Ground troops should be held away from Lebanese civilians and used in Gaza - where no one should be considered a civilian.

If Olmert can't handle it, he goes down and someone FAR more hawkish will come in. Israeli's GOTTA be feeling pretty belligerent right now!

That comment by Tobin on Fox that one of the missiles that hit Haifa held ball bearings that exploded, killing 8 people....Wolf Blitzer just on CNN scolding Peres of Israel for not being more PC about where they shoot back. And "Is the head of Hezbollah a legitimate target?" Wolf wonders. Peres points out that he's a killer and should be dead, that Israel will kill him. (Wolf is speechless.)

I think Olmert is just trying cool things off a bit short term so the evacuees have a better chance of leaving unmolested. IMO.
