Has anyone seen Mansoor Ijaz? Wonder what his take is
he's 21 ...feels bad that he's leaving now. Wants to "help"...the idealism of youth..
Very good idea to take a break. Frequent ones in your case, stay safe!
leaving from BenGurion in 6 hours to London for about 2 weeks...
Nobody knows...we can only watch and fervently hope that Iran and Syria don't jump into it. The troops are pretty much like the rest of us...just waiting to see. There is some preparedness going on, though. Checking bunkers, getting a few more in place, stocking up on MREs....things we've gone through before, though.
Mostly, everything's just kind of "business as usual" around here for now.
God bless Jonathan. I'll keep him in my prayers for our troops.
This is largely what's been said all along (and as I have loved ones stuck, I've been following it as much as possible)...I think they still mean that they need to 'stay put' until a plan that is feasible (temporary ceasefire or agreements with all sides that they will be doing evacs, etc.) is in place, not that they won't be getting them out at all. I think they just keep finding glitches to the plans (thus the reason they had people on the ground today to better evaluate).
Or that's what I'm hearing via the folks I have there (and they are in touch with the embassy multiple times a day)...and they are being told to still stay 'stuck' in the south, as there's still no real passable route up to the area around Beirut, and even if there were, there's still too many dangers for the drive to be worth the risk at this point.
I could be wrong, but I just got an email an hour ago and they had just been in touch with the folks in Beirut, so that's the understanding I have of that comment (State Dept) based on what the stranded citizens are hearing.
At that age they all feel invincible!......but we know better..
Go to the horse's mouth:

Just in case.
Oh My Gosh! Trace just said that Shep is on the ground! I think he means he is in Israel. Get ready for histrionics.
London? Oooh, I'd make him come straight home with NO detours. Pronto!
Thanks Allegra....I am already a nervous wreck and he hasn't even left yet......Mike left so fast that I didn't have time to think, but that was in 03 for the invasion...now with these rotations you have 6months to start worrying.....
I just heard what Tony was to have said. I did not hear/see Bret.
Shep is a drama queen.
Question of the day: Is anyone in the world dumber than Juan Williams? Anyone hear him today on FNS? Unreal
See post #941...Peach has put the link.
It is a new website being started by Matthew Dowd, Republican strategist...and Joe Lockhart, former Clinton lackey...
They say it will be a website where people can for for NON-PARTISAN discussion of politic, religion, etc.
You can go there now..and sign up to participate...some of us are...in order to hopefully, put some FR sense on it.
