It occurs to me, that Israel could have placed a cheap, 3" thick, iron-or-steel decoy, about 50 meters to starboard of that boat, and It would have absorbed the impact of the missile.

Why didn't they do this??

Real simple answer: Because you are not in charge of the Israel navy. I'm sure if you were in charge, all their ships would tow a decoy behind them....hmmm.. perhaps not, since it would slow the ships down considerably.

Oh well, what do I know, I'm not an Admiral....

Israel does not have a naval history and thus are inexperienced.

Have you tried to place an order at the 3" Thick Iron Or Steel Decoy Works, LTD?

They are a year backlogged!

Pop-up missile. It would have jumped right over it.

Not to mention the fact that the ship can't maneouver while towing a shield of 3" thick steel plates 150' on either side of the ship. And, the plates would have to be longer than the ship, and taller than the ship, and one of the two missiles (the one that barely missed) came straight down, so the plates would have to be over the ship too...

Somebody screwed up and forgot the skyhook in port.

Interesting idea. Create a decoy to absorb the worm.
