Excerpts
"I want to deal with you guys awhile before I make any transactions at all, period," he told them, "After we've done some business, well, then I might change my mind."
Still, he wanted them to understand that he was the best man in Congress the sheik could acquire "I'm going to tell you this, if anybody can do it, I'm not BS-ing you fellows, I can get it done my way," he boasted "There's no question about it."
"All at once," he said, "some dumb (expletive deleted) would go start talking eight years from now about the whole thing and say (expletive deleted), this happened. Then in order to get immunity so he doesn't go to jail, he starts talking and fingering people. So the (SOB) falls apart."
"You give us the banks where you want the money deposited," offered one of the bagmen.
"All right," agreed Murtha "How much money are we talking about?"
"Well, you tell me"
"Well, let me find out what is a reasonable figure that will get their attention," said Murtha, "because there are a couple of banks that have really done me some favors in the past, and I'd like to put some money in."
Later Murtha asked again how much the sheik might be willing to deposit in a bank the congressman would designate. "Oh," said Amoroso, "I think a million dollars." The figure aroused new enthusiasm in Murtha.
Murtha emphasized again how influential he was "I'll be quite honest with you," he confided "I've got as much influence in that (expletive deleted) Congress with the leadership and the White House as anybody in Congress. I went to the ball game with the President. There were three of us me, Tip (Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill) and that was it. So I've got as much influence, and I know as much about the (expletive deleted) workings--you're not going to have any trouble."

Question: Was Brit Hume working for Jack Anderson in 1980? He might remember this.
To: Inspectorette
Hmmmmmm, I have no idea. I was pretty much apolitical at that time.

Makes you wonder if this story is related to Murtha as well. Let's see, FBI wants Jack Anderson's files and Jack Anderson broke the ABSCAM story. According to reports, Lexis database has no archive of Jack Anderson's Murtha story which means it was scrubbed. It is an election year and the only person those papers could damage would be Jack Murtha!! Murtha has to be hiding even more than we might think!!
U of U Professor Knows Location of Documents FBI Wants June 12th, 2006 @ 5:34pm Jon Dunn Reporting
Over the last few months, the FBI has turned to Jack Anderson's papers papers the deceased investigative journalist amassed over the years in his work. KSL Newsradio has learned that thousands of pages of those documents are right here in Salt Lake City.
University of Utah Professor Tim Chambless befriended Anderson over the years, and has built his own collection of papers by writing about the columnist.
"The FBI was informed by the Anderson family that I was a person who knew more than anyone else," Chambless says.
Chambless says when FBI Director Robert Mueller visited Salt Lake City last week, he wanted to come clean about his six boxes full of papers, and wanted to tell the bureau why it will never see them.
"I believe in the First Amendment. Jack Anderson believed in the First Amendment," Chambless says.
Chambless sent a letter through his lawyer to Mueller, asking him to announce the end of the pursuit of the papers. Attorney Pat Shea says the papers are now hidden where no one will find them.

Ping - there's a .pdf copy of the article that was retyped in this post. Helpful for uploading to websites, as well as using in districts where Murtha shows up to campaign - there was an article claiming he plans to campaign 41 districts.

You get another scandal with in a scandal with his comments about the banks - what kind of favors had these banks done for Murtha?
"Well, let me find out what is a reasonable figure that will get their attention," said Murtha, "because there are a couple of banks that have really done me some favors in the past, and I'd like to put some money in."
He's corrupt to the bone.
To: Erik Latranyi
If you take a look at the release her campaign put out earlier today, you'd see her campaign obviously already has it. And I'd wager they have a lot more to come ...
