The Bush administration should stop repeating that it is fighting the war on terror for truth, justice and the American way. Instead, the president and his staff should be blunt and explain that, since Sept. 11, it has had to choose between options that are bad or far worse.
By all means, the administration should invite critics to suggest constructive alternatives to the way it's handled this war. But it should also point out that those who have honed in on flaws in current U.S. anti-terror policies have so far been bereft of other workable ideas.
Take the uniform-less and stateless terrorists being held at Guantanamo Bay. To be sure, there are alternatives to the current U.S. policy, but are they any better? Should we try hundreds of them in American courts like Zacarias Moussaoui or in international tribunals as the Europeans attempted with Slobodan Milosevic? Or send them home to face torture in autocracies like Egypt or Saudi Arabia? Or do we ship the terrorists back to countries that would simply declare them heroes and let them go?

the situation is Israel will expand,
Bush will take action to help the Good Guys,
the media will roast him for it,
the Republicans will lose power,
and the Bush Administration will be forever branded as a War Criminal period in American history.
Meanwhile, the Democrats will make sure that the Terrorists will be given everything they've ever wanted.
Bush needs to aggressively make sure that this false perception is nipped in the bud.
W should have had Congress enact legislation enabling military tribunals in October 2001 while the rubble at the WTC was still hot from the fires instead of trying to do them through the executive branch. When you have congressional debates on CSPAN, there are lots of congressmen who will make quotable soundbites. The administration shouldn't be the only source of arguments for how to conduct the war against Muslim jihadists.
Difficult to do based on the ROP foundation. The enemy has to be recognized as the very first step.
Wont happen.
Bush is on the right side of history just like Reagan during the cold war. Democrats and libs are wrong again. They will try of course, and have some sucesses, but they are all doomed to failure in the end, just like when they tried to undermine Reagan.
Bush can talk himself blue using clear and not uncertain terms about the War on Terror. In fact he has done so repeatedly.
The media has misquoted, or selectively quoted, or ignored him. They've sabotaged the administration since the WoT began.
Beyond all that, perhaps a little bit of trust in the President won't hurt either.
Awesome article. Hanson nails it on the head again!
If you don't get it by now, you won't get it at all.
This reminds me of a good Churchill quote:
"Democracy is the WORST form of government, except for all the rest."
Basically what it comes down to is that the administration needs to stop being a bunch of pussies and stop bending over backwards for the lefties.
I think Gary's "speech" at the end of 'Team America - World Police' pretty much says it all.
Bush does not need to explain anything clearer. Anyone that can't understand it five years after 9/11 is a liberal that don't want to listen.
I fear for my country when a TERRORIST attack on the United States & our war against Islamofascists has to be explained over and over again. Those that can get it, already have, those that haven't got it, don't care, or have buried their head in the sand because they are too AFRAID to get it, or those who couldn't get it if a NUKE landed in their home town.
Just my HO.
Really stupid thing to say about an Adminstration that has, and continues, to kill Muslim Terrorists by the bus loads despite a domestic press and a opposition party allied in everything but name with the Terrorists.
Bush does not need to explain anything clearer. Anyone that can't understand it five years after 9/11 is a liberal that don't want to listen.
"Part of the war is PR and he is losing BIG time."
I agree with that part but what's the guy supposed to do, spend all his waking hours trying to counteract the liberal press. He does have other things to do.
I still say that anyone that does not understand why we are fighting terror is running around with their fingers in their ears yelling lah, lah, lah, lah.....
