Well, it is in no way like your relationship with your boys, unless you allow your boys complete freedom to do whatever they want.
When your boys are adults, they will have complete freedom. You will hope they choose to do the right thing every time, but you won't be able to guarantee or assure that. And, you will still love them, no matter what they do.

If God chose to actively manipulate us like robots instead of permitting us to choose redemption or condemnation, then all indeed would be saved. But God has chosen to give us a choice--not because He is weak or does not see the end from the beginning, but because it is His sovereign will that all human beings choose their own eternal destinies. To that end, He sent His Son to be our Light. Once we are exposed to the Light, we have a choice: To come into the Light, or to flee back into the darkness.
