Total Dysfunction at the New York Times
Real Clear Politics ^ | 7/13/2006 | Jed Babbin

Posted on 07/13/2006 5:57:58 AM PDT by Obadiah

The New York Times's publication of two classified anti-terrorist programs and the Times's nose-in-the-air defense of its actions have inflamed conservative anti-media passions to a temperature not reached since Watergate. Michael Barone - who was fair and balanced before Fox News was born - put it in perspective. Barone compared NYT executive editor Bill Keller's explanation of the Times's decisions to, on one hand, not republishing the Danish cartoons of Mohammed with those to, on the other hand, publish both the NSA terrorist surveillance program and the Treasury Department's tracking terrorist money through the Belgian "SWIFT" consortium. Barone wrote, "Disclosing classified programs that help protect us against terrorism is just dandy. But publishing cartoons that would be 'perceived as a particularly deliberate insult' by Muslims is beyond the pale. Coddling tender sensitivities is more important [to the New York Times] than protecting national security."

Fantastic, Grampa Dave. Although we are the silent majority, we have the power to break these seditious entities from American culture. Thanks for your research on this - if we all do this, it will have an impact.

My wife and I used to only buy the Sunday NY Times. Which we read through in a couple minutes because most of the articles were bs. After their last treasonous act we no longer buy it. I hope a lot more people follow suit.

Thanks for the kind words.

As you noted, if all of us did this, we would have an impact.

The mutual funds company's got various parts of their anatomies caught in bad places when it was disclosed they gave hedge funds better deals than we got.

One can only imagine the uproar if the SEC acting on complaints found out that certain fund managers were buying the 2 year stock loser NYT to keep it viable with our precious retirement capital.

All of these news rags are in financial trouble, the news paper is going the way of the dinosaur. The closer to extinction they become the more outrageous are their attempts at relevance. When the Founders of the Constitution assured freedom of the press, they did not mean the freedom to lie, distort, inject bias, and omit news they fear might stir patriotic passions, and become the bottom feeders they are now.

The NYTimes SHOULD be charged with treason.

Regarding these people and their beliefs that The 1st Amendment means that we all need to know everything: In the military, EVEN those who have the security clearance REQUIRED to be privy to specific information are DENIED ACCESS UNLESS THEY HAVE THE NEED TO KNOW.

Access requires BOTH the clearance AND the need-to-know.

Thanks for the list.

Index funds which include the S%P 500 have to include the NYT as part of their investments.

However, the shares they own should replicate the % of the S&P 500, which decreases each week as their stock value/share drops.

Last but not least, the few people who still have retirement funds need to check those funds to see if the company managing those funds is buy NYT and other losing newspaper stocks.

Grandpa Dave: Is there anyway you could post other Newspaper stock symbols that we should be on the look for?

Admin Mod: Can you highlight this somehow so other members would be aware of it? I am not even sure if it is doable.

"Grandpa Dave: Is there anyway you could post other Newspaper stock symbols that we should be on the look for?"

NYT = NY Slimes, WPO = Washington Compost, TRB = Chicago Tribune and LA Slimes, GCI = Gannett/USA Lies Today, MNI = McClatchey, Lee = a lot of newspapers in various states. None of these Dinosaur fishwraps are good for America. Their editorials attack GW, spew sedtion and push left wing enviralism everyday.

Just substitute the 3 letter stock symbol from any the above with NYT and do the same procedure. The results are surprising in some cases and sometimes the same rat funds which own NYT.

Freepmail abb and ask to be placed on his Dinosaur Fishwrap and dying MSM ping lists. What abb posts is often very surprising re how really bad these MSM companies are doing today. Of course, this reality never makes the MSM news.

Send VG an email and tell them that your are concerned about the NY Slimes and why. Then ask them if the % of the shares they own in that index fund are the same % as in the real index,

Vanguard has done a pretty good job of shedding NYT the past year or so. To be a true index fund, they should have the same % of stock in their mutual index fund as in the real index.

Thanks for all of your help here.

As more Freepers wake up about the possibility of their mutual funds owning left wing newspaper stocks and sell the funds owning these stocks, we will have one heck of an impact on these worthless dinosaur fish wraps.
