I recommend you start at the beginning and read the early purposed drafts and how the wording barely changed at all from Pickney's initial draft of the Constitution through subsequent revisions.

But I'm sure all that "delegating authority" to the FedGov and accepting Federal limitations on what were State powers under the Confederacy were just things that they needed a Judge to explain to them... All that talk about "Citizens Rights" in the individual tense was just them not realizing that the very system they were talking about was merely protecting a class of "collective" Rights.
