Rudy for president?

Well-connected public figures report that they have been told recently by Rudolph Giuliani that, as of now, he intends to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.

The former mayor of New York was on top of last month's national Gallup poll measuring presidential preferences by registered Republicans, with 29 percent. Sen. John McCain's 24 percent was second, with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich third at 8 percent. National polls all year have shown Giuliani running either first or second to McCain, with the rest of the presidential possibilities far behind.

Republican insiders respond to these numbers by saying rank-and-file GOP voters will abandon Giuliani once they realize his position on abortion, gay rights and gun control. Party strategists calculate that if he actually runs, he must change on at least one of these issues.

Mr. Guiliani as US Atty for the St of NY indicted mobsters and won convictions in Court. These were mobsters who had $500 an hour lawyer types. That takes debating skill. There ain't no way on God's green earth that Allen can stand up to that.

If a social liberal Republican loses it will be because of the so called moral conservatives, like yourself, who would refuse to vote for them and let a Democrat win instead.

All of these poll numbers will change once Condi Rice throws her hat in the ring.

He's not my choice (pun intended) but its hard to blame him for running, given how he's polling - and he actually improves in the general over the primaries.

But he's pro abortion - I can't see him getting nominated without splitting the Republicans - maybe into two parties.

"No they wouldn't vote for newt because he's worse than rudy. When he was off crucifying clinton for monica he was boinking his own intern."

IMO, Newt Gingrich is a low-life. I appreciate what he did for the GOP in '94 but I would never vote for a man who divorced his wife, while she was dying of cancer, to marry his younger, little ho.

Neither He nor Rudy have the morality to survive the muster of the Conservatives in the Primaries.

Your post is just a plain 'ol hit piece pure and simple, I don't care how you source it.

And your post below about Guiliani smootching his homosexual roommates is out of line in my opinion regardless of how true it may or may not be.

HIs debating skills turned a 30 point deficit against him in his race for governor into a 20 point lead. Yea, he must really suck.

Allen has how much of vote majority of his own party in his state? Come on. Its deceitful to base his victory based wholly on his debating skills.

I believe it takes more than a piece of paper to say a person is married or divorced. Rudy's marriage was already over when he was dating his current wife. I would argue in his heart whether or not he truly was committing adultry. In Gingrich's case though, adultry was just outright blatant.

I don't have a personal animosity against Allen unlike many here who seem to take Rudy's chances personally.

Both George Will and Fred Barnes have written favorably about Allen saying he does have conservative view with a strong libertarian streak that differs from the current administration.
I hope they are right.
I'd like to hear him.
That is also my political view.

Let's see if Allen has the guts to run on what he believes instead of what the social right wants to hear.

As far as his debating skills are concerned it's prolly good prep work that he has to go against a dirty fighter like Webb for his senate seat.
He's going to need it if he goes against Rudy or McCaine.

Rudy prohibited the NYPD from working with the INS to arrest illegals.

We are not going to win this war if our borders are a free-for-all.

Virginia may vote red on a national scale but it hadn't elected a republican governor in a long time. Its not as 'red ' of a state asyou seem to think. REmember democrats ran the show in that state for a very long time.

It is intellectually dishonest of you to discount his debate skills as a turning point in the debate. Go look it up on lexis nexis. Lots of people saw mary sue terry and geroge allen on stage and th ey liked the way he came off and switched sides. The clinton machine tried everything they could on allen but they couldn't beat him in 1993 and they couldn't do it in 2000, and they wont do it in 2008.

Remember, allen won by the largest vote margin for governor in VA history in almost 4 decades

When the choice is a Democrat or Rudy

That's not a choice.

So what? That was when he was mayor of NY. There's no indication he'll do the same if elected Pres on a national level. It may be an indicator he would though.

I'd certainly prefer Rudy to Hillary. I might get flamed, but I'd prefer him over McCain too.

No disagreement here.

Blame your man, Rudy. The words came out of his own mouth.

Yes, of course. Let's shy away from airing the truth about this guy and continue perpetuating the false image of him as a conservative. It's too bad that you find facts to be such an inconvenience.
