FReeper Canteen ~ Tell Us About Your Military Service ~ July 6, 2006
Ms. Behavin & Old Sarge | 06 JULY 2006 | Ms. Behavin & Old Sarge

Posted on 07/05/2006 7:04:50 PM PDT by Old Sarge

Army?

Navy?

Air Force?

Marines?

Coast Guard?

Why did you choose that particular branch?

Where did you go to Basic Training or Boot Camp?

What is the name of your unit? (Division?)

What is their (your) mascot?

Tell us how much you loved your DI!

How long were you at Boot Camp/Basic Training, before you questioned the parentage of the senior Drill Sergeant? How long were you in service before you realized that the instructors were right in all that they taught you?

Your first landing on an aircraft carrier

Your first parachute jump

The heaviest vehicle you got to drive

The largest weapon you got to use

Did you serve before email?

Did you have a personal nickname?

It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future...
and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and God bless you.

A gentle reminder from Ms.B:
Please, no politics in The Canteen.
The Troops need a place to rest, relax and relate, and that place is The Canteen.
Have fun and play nice!

Welcome to the Canteen, gleeaikin, and thanks to your husband and your son for their service to our country. Thanks to you too as a military wife and Mom who "served" too.

Well, you didn't get the real name. :-)

Thank you for the image!

I figured that if anyone could get my name through black electrical tape AND duct tape then they are worthy enough to have my real name. I would admire someone who could do that.

I can see the wheels turning at the NSA right now. ROFL

Both of the boats with names in the pics were de-commed a long time ago so I don't have any qualms about showing those names.

Can't say the names of the other four. They're still out there somewhere doing what they do.

Hey Kathy,

Thanks as always. I hope you are doing well. I was thinking about you over the weekend when I saw a graphic depicting the possible path of the Korean missle. They had it falling on Alaska.

Although I sort of knew it wasn't aimed at you folks and that it probably could not carry that far, it annoys me that we even have to think about stuff like that.

Ah yes, the F-111 afterburner. I've probably logged several hours in the exhaust and in the intake of the F-111 doing pre- and post-flight inspections. I recall reading the huge novel "Count Dracula" by Bram Stoker while sitting at the trim pad while we ran a bird all night long for several nights. Those old Coleman tugs always had a revolving spotlamp mounted on the outside of the rear cab wall and I would turn it back into the cab for a reading light. The ground around the pad would literally shake as the two P&W TF30s were pushed into after-burner. Behind the aircraft, the orangish-red flame of the AB would extend out and over the blast fence. Quite a sight.

And yep, I recall the winters back then. Those old AF parkas sure felt good about midnight when the wind and snow was blowing past your frost-bitten ears as you tried to drain a fuel line up in the wheel well. Gee those are great memories but I'm so glad they are memories of chores completed.
