FReeper Canteen ~ Tell Us About Your Military Service ~ July 6, 2006
Ms. Behavin & Old Sarge | 06 JULY 2006 | Ms. Behavin & Old Sarge

Posted on 07/05/2006 7:04:50 PM PDT by Old Sarge

Army?

Navy?

Air Force?

Marines?

Coast Guard?

Why did you choose that particular branch?

Where did you go to Basic Training or Boot Camp?

What is the name of your unit? (Division?)

What is their (your) mascot?

Tell us how much you loved your DI!

How long were you at Boot Camp/Basic Training, before you questioned the parentage of the senior Drill Sergeant? How long were you in service before you realized that the instructors were right in all that they taught you?

Your first landing on an aircraft carrier

Your first parachute jump

The heaviest vehicle you got to drive

The largest weapon you got to use

Did you serve before email?

Did you have a personal nickname?

It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future...
and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and God bless you.

A gentle reminder from Ms.B:
Please, no politics in The Canteen.
The Troops need a place to rest, relax and relate, and that place is The Canteen.
Have fun and play nice!

See, now I was thinking eatern TN or western NC for weather a little cooler
Both are absolutely beautiful!
I don't know a whole lot about the cost of living in TN. I did consider a job in NC about 5 years ago. They offered me a 10% raise, but even with the extra money the housing costs more than made up the difference so I stayed where I was. (I like my current job and employer too).
I spent 4 1/2 months in Greensboro, NC and other than housing, the other costs (food, etc) seemed about the same as here.

Cordially,
GE

Safari Dog

A man goes on a safari and brings his dog along. Of course the dog runs off and gets lost. Well the dog comes upon a skeleton of bones on the ground and he realizes they are Jaguar bones and just out of the corner of his eye he sees a jaguar stalking him. So the dog thinks real quick and picks up one of the bones and says "Man, that sure was a good Jaguar." So the jaguar backs off realizing he shouldn't mess with this dog.

At the same time a monkey was in the tree and sees this situation and thinks if he lets the jaguar know what's up maybe he won't get eaten by the jaguar. So he goes down to the jaguar and says "You've been had. He didn't eat that jaguar." The jaguar says "Well, see what I do to this dog." The monkey jumps on his back and he begins to stalk him again and the dog realizes what has happened so he thinks really quickly and says "Where's that monkey? He's so unreliable, I sent him ten minutes ago to get me another jaguar."

The story among boat sailors is that you could leave your white hat on your rack with $100 in it. Come back later and the white hat would be gone but the $100 would be sitting on the rack.

Booze or beer is a different story.

The electrician's used to hide beer in an overhead vent in maneuvering room. A lieutenant on board heard a rumor about it. Did he write up the electrician's? Nah! He helped them drink it but said, "Don't do it again!"

I just finished scanning these:

Name covered with black electrical tape and duct tape. Let's see the Photoshop wizards get that name. :-)

Cuff link. Can't find the other one.

Tarnished enough for you?

2nd of six boats I served on in 5 years. Must be some kind of record!

I was going to say, "no problem."

But then I noticed I haven't even caught up to all of those who posted! I stopped somewhere around 200 and then have jumped in at the end to catch the latest!

Oh, well. I'm sure Ma will stay up as long as it takes to make sure everyone is done!

If ol'-dead-eye-LUV W is going to be at the shoot out in San Antonio then I might skip it.
