FReeper Canteen ~ Tell Us About Your Military Service ~ July 6, 2006
Ms. Behavin & Old Sarge | 06 JULY 2006 | Ms. Behavin & Old Sarge

Posted on 07/05/2006 7:04:50 PM PDT by Old Sarge

Army?

Navy?

Air Force?

Marines?

Coast Guard?

Why did you choose that particular branch?

Where did you go to Basic Training or Boot Camp?

What is the name of your unit? (Division?)

What is their (your) mascot?

Tell us how much you loved your DI!

How long were you at Boot Camp/Basic Training, before you questioned the parentage of the senior Drill Sergeant? How long were you in service before you realized that the instructors were right in all that they taught you?

Your first landing on an aircraft carrier

Your first parachute jump

The heaviest vehicle you got to drive

The largest weapon you got to use

Did you serve before email?

Did you have a personal nickname?

It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future...
and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and God bless you.

A gentle reminder from Ms.B:
Please, no politics in The Canteen.
The Troops need a place to rest, relax and relate, and that place is The Canteen.
Have fun and play nice!

Good morning back to you from the sunny Gulf Coast.
It was 88 degrees this morning when I left for work at about 90% humidity.
Looks like it will hit around 98 or so today.

Days like today I wish I lived up in your neck of the woods!

Ha! Wouldn't do you any good. The humidity has been nasty the last few day.

However, after the system moves out from over us later today it will take a lot of the humidity with it. Of course, if you want to fly up and spend the next couple of days, it'll be nice! LOL

What a bunch of questions!

I enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard in the 32nd (Red Arrow) Infantry Division on 7 July 1964.

I went to Basic and AIT at Ft. Jackson, SC in 1965, three days after graduation from high school.

I went to OCS at Ft. Sill, OK the summer of 1967.

Was I in before email? Heck, I was in when a post card was about 5 cents!

The heaviest vehicle I ever drove was an M-48A1 (Yeah, a gasser!) tank. The largest weapon I ever fired was a 155mm howitzer.

My nickname when I was the XO of a firing battery was "The Duke".

My first parachute jump? I am a Leg...only two things fall from the sky!

I was retired with 30 years commissioned time as a Lieutenant Colonel and yeah, I would do it all over again if I had the chance! Serving my country was an honor and a blessing!
