Army?
|
Navy?
|
Why did you choose that particular branch?
|
Where did you go to Basic Training or Boot Camp?
What is the name of your unit? (Division?)
What is their (your) mascot?
Tell us how much you loved your DI!
How long were you at Boot Camp/Basic Training, before you questioned the parentage of the senior Drill Sergeant? How long were you in service before you realized that the instructors were right in all that they taught you? |
Your first landing on an aircraft carrier Your first parachute jump The heaviest vehicle you got to drive The largest weapon you got to use Did you serve before email? Did you have a personal nickname? |
It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future... and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and God bless you.
A gentle reminder from Ms.B: Please, no politics in The Canteen. The Troops need a place to rest, relax and relate, and that place is The Canteen. Have fun and play nice! |

Good morning Kathy, Beach and canteen members...keep up the good work and I hope you are all well. Just thought I would say hi before I jump head first into my work this morning. Rest assured I continue in my efforts (with the the "pigrigger")to re-educate all the lefty liberals on the south shore of Suffolk County LI and to be my lurking self. I hope the both of you are having a great summer. Give a shout hi to Mojo for me, thanks. Bye for now.

Well..let's see. I chose the Army, though I could have gone into the Marines. Kinda wish I did now :)
I went to Basic at Ft.Leonard Wood (Lost in Woods) in southern Missouri..in June, where it gets hot..and humid in Missouri, so it was really fun to march in hot weather.
From FLW, I went to Ft. Gordan in Augusta, GA. From the stove to the grill, where the humidity is even worse. Yick. But that was in late August to October, so it wasn't bad.
From GA, I went overseas to West Germany (yeah, that long ago). There I was at Ansbach, home of the 1st Armor Division, Old Ironsides. I was assigned to 141 Signal BN, Alpha Company, the Gators! (Go Gators!) I stayed there about 3 1/2 yrs, 6 months of that time somewhere in the desert of Saudi Arabia near the border of Iraq.
After the war (Desert Storm), I got an early out, and went to Army Reserve back here in Columbia and stayed there for the rest of my contract (5 yrs).
Got out in February 1996.
Man, that was a long time ago, but I am glad I served my country.
That's my story and I'm stickin by it ;)

WOO HOOOOOO!
Good morning, never4get.
Thank you for checking in. It has been a long time. I am happy to know you are all doing well and that you are still dedictated to "re-educate all the lefty liberals on the south shore of Suffolk County LI."
Say howdy to pigrigger!
Blessing to you and yours.

Welcome to the Canteen, GrandEagle, and thanks for your service to our country.
Thanks for the Welcome! I think this is my first time here. I usually hang out in the political area.
Thanks also for the thank you.
Some of these guys around here really had a lot on the line. I worked with some real heroes. All I did is pretty much keep things warmed up for the rest of the guys though. I think I got more out of it than I put into it. Lots of fun, but pretty benign.
Cordially,
GE
