cause of death unknown
No he didn't.
Anyone who put their life savings in Enron stock instead of diversifying his portfolio is a moron who can only blame himself for his own stupidity.
Note to slow-on-the-uptake investors: the stock market is risky.
Lay himself was one of the largest individuals holders of Enron stock and he clearly wasn't trying to destroy the value of stock he owned.
He was greedy and he lied to his stockholders.
He deserved to go to prison and to forfeit the money he took.
But discussing him as if he were a murderer or a rapist when he was just a thief and a pretty lousy one at that is ridiculous hyperbole inspired more by the media spin on Lay than the actual facts of the case.
The Great Equalizer steps in once again. Rest in peace.
The way the Clinton SEC under Robert Rubin set up the Enron debacle has been totally under-reported. Had Lay started to sing it would have been extremely embarrasing to the left. The way the California power crisis was set up has never been adequately covered.
Why does "You can't take it with you" come to my mind?
I find DU a sick group of anti-americans who hate Bush more than they hate rattlesnakes, maybe they are rattlesnakes!!!
___________
My tagline:
"He shot himself with a heart attack."
Wasn't that a Bon Jovi song? Shot through the heart...
I want to see his body maybe he flew
A few trips that slick willie made to India were for the purpose of trying to convince India to get back into the deal.
Anyone who claims that Ken Lay destroyed his life is a loser with zero sense of personal responsibility.
A new word to describe DU types? I like it:)
Remind your brother-in-law that it was Bill Clinton who gave all the perks to Ken Lay - not Bush. And .. when the story broke, it was Lieberman who said he was going to start hearings and take Bush down. However, as soon as the hearings started, Lieberman discovered all roads led back to Clinton and the hearings were quickly dropped - never to be heard of again.
Ken Lay. May he RIP. Amen.
Was Claudine Longet in the neighborhood?????
Agree as well, but they also shouldn't be multi-millionaires on his ill-gotten gains.
Well, he was the captain of the ship ... but the XO (Skilling) probably more at fault about Enron's sinking!
I know it and you know it but it wont stop the DUmmies from wild speculation and flat out BS.
I cant even access their board now because its apparently so busy
"He won't be enjoying his annunities now."
What do nuns have to do with this?
Agree that you shouldn't put all your money into your company's stock, but the employees were hung out to dry when Lay and his cohorts were dumping their stock at the end, but the employees were not allowed to sell theirs.
It's going to be very difficult for the government to take assets that are so well protected by the law. This will be an interesting case.
"There are rapists and child molesters walking around free in this country - people need to get some sense of moral proportion."
A rapist or child molester destroys one or a handful of lives, which is terrible.
A guy who calmly defrauds his company, employees, and stockholders of billions destroys thousands.
As with a molestation or rape, the victim lives; but their lives are thrown into chaos, their futures ruined.
Now some outside guy, like me (although I had no stake in Enron) who bought some shares might have had a chance to bail out. The employees, though, were locked out of any chance to escape by transferring their 401k assets.
Those people were ****ed by Ken Lay. I don't want to in any way trivialize the horror of rape or molestation victims but IMO the "only fraud" treatment of white collar crime is 100% off target; the white-collar criminal just savages his victims from afar.
