TOKYO (AP) Japanese broadcaster NHK says North Korea has test-launched a missile.
It certainly is.
I see your point exactly. I spent two tours in Okinawa (86-87 and '92-'93) and obviously our presence there is no longer looked as positive as it once was, never mind the money and jobs that we still provide to the local civilians that work on our bases there.
Yes, an interesting "twist" it would be to end up back in Cam Rahn Bay, especially if we lost our presence in the ROK and Okinawa, adding our to already lost bases in Subic Bay and Clark AB in the Phillippines.
CNN here switched to the CNN International bureau's newscast. They've been remarkably cool and even-handed.
Fox really stained the bed on this one. Hard News is Hard News. CNN has, despite their occasional slip-ups and inevitable digs, done a great job on this story, though I think the US news cycle is probably a few hours behind the real story.
McLaughlin was quoted on CNN around 8:40 EST saying that "one or two" of the missiles went *over* Japan.
We'll see if that is repeated in coming days. Since he was the #2 under Tenet, I'd think he still talks to his friends.
If it went over Japan, this is much more serious than they are letting on. (Not that it isn't serious already).
Remember that no one said a peep about where the 1998 third stage landed until years later (and it is still not clear, just rumor). And no one knew it at the time in 1994 during the first Korean nuclear crisis, but we were closer to nuclear war than at anytime since 1962.
I don't think anyone can truly say what just happened.
And I am not about to say what I think it could have been.
Because it is too terrible to contemplate.
And Iraq isnt much better these days
fully 50% below poverty level
Zimbabwe? Fuhgedabout it!
When will the world realize WE arent the threat?
I also read somewhere that North Korea has a radio tower jammer just a shade north of the DMZ to jam any chance to receive wireless signals from South Korea.
"Who is CNN interviewing via VoiP?"
Sorry, I've been out of the loop. Watched PBS's (wretch) coverage of Washington's Fourth of July celebration. Wasn't too bad. At least they played patriotic music -- how 'bout that? Not the watered down, multicultural, Top 40 tripe the other channels are featuring.
Did you ever find an answer to your question?
Good report from working at "the deep" today. I work there part-time, and really enjoyed my day off from both jobs.
2729 White Lake Michigan, Garden Dept. in season, Lumber out of season. Just started my 6th year. Off to bed also. See ya.
Take care. Yea, you know what it like to haul off broken bags of stones and top soil to dump into the receiving center hell hall. Nighty night. PS. I only started with HD this May. Thought I would be instructing folks how to buy plants and water the stuff. What a revelation it is. I work like a horse.

Food's better in Vietnam and ROC as well...won't even discuss food in the Phillippines.
My hope is that we will simply sit back and watch NK's neighbors handle the problem.
Only issue there is what happens when China gets tired of chewing up only North Koreans?

If the goal is money from the US, I am having trouble seeing how changing the characters but keeping the theme helps them
I think we're on the 7th missile now as of a few hours ago.
