Since we lost the color receptors and then gained one back, I wonder if our brains neurologically could process a tetrachromatic color system.

I think children have enough plasticity in brain function that they might be able to handle a couple extra colors. For an adult, it would be sorta like learning a new language, never fully fluent, and always with an accent...

If it were suddenly thrust upon an adult, I imagine it would be like a man blide his entire life suddenly being able to see. In such cases, it takes months or years for the person to adjust. They still use touch and hearing to put what they see in a context they understand.
