OPINION: I understand. The focus on that specific graphic is on the fire/flames itself and the message is simple there -- fire.

Israel At War

The war continues with the introduction of a longer range rocket by Hezbollah. I am concerned that the Israeli government is starting to lose their backbone in the face of unexpected resistance by Hezbollah. Israel has already lost one propaganda war – that of being invincible. The fact that Hezbollah has managed to stand up to Israel for as long as it has shows to the Arab mind that Israel can be beat. This is a dangerous proposition. I am also concerned that Syria might view this ‘weakness’ as an opportunity to engage Israel directly, as evidenced by the increasing military readiness and military music, last heard in the 1980’s. However, as long as the US keeps the rest of the world off of Israel’s back, they can still take it to Hezbollah unhindered. BTW, UN and EU elements calling for a 72 hr cease fire.

24-hour forecast
Indicators are causing concern for potential use of long range rockets by Hezbollah this weekend. It wouldn’t surprise me if they struck during the Sabbath. Israel appears to view this threat as serious and has been deploying ABM systems. The Israeli announcement for civilians to leave a greater portion of southern Lebanon suggests that deeper ground incursions are planned.

UN Redeploys Observers
The United Nations has decided to remove 50 unarmed observers from posts along the Israeli-Lebanese border and relocate them with lightly armed U.N. peacekeepers, a spokesman said Friday.

Hezbollah Begins Striking Deeper
Friday, Hezbollah announced it had fired a new rocket, called the Khaibar-1, striking near the northern Israeli town of Afula. Its range is reportedly 120-130 km. Israeli authorities reported that five rockets hit fields outside Afula, causing no casualties. Police officials said that the missiles that landed Friday afternoon in Afula were Pajar-5 missiles that carried 100-kilograms of explosives each. Afula is about 30 miles south of the Israeli-Lebanese border, and is farther south than the Israeli port city of Haifa. The strike came two days after Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said in a televised speech that Hezbollah would start a new phase in the battle striking beyond the Israeli city of Haifa, which has been hit several times in lethal rocket fire. All outdoor activities cancelled and Afula’s residents ordered to adopt Haifa procedures for the first time.

Meanwhile, Israeli army chiefs fear that Nasrallah, having received the nod from Tehran Wednesday, will start firing Zelzal-2 missiles at central Israel over the weekend. Anti-missile missile systems have been deployed. Although the Israeli air force has destroyed some of these missiles which carry a 600 kilo payload, several dozen still remain. Thursday night and Friday morning, July 28, Israeli bombers struck Hezbollah locations in the northern Beqaa Valley where the Zelzal-2 missiles are stored.

IAF Strikes Continue
The IDF targeted more than 130 sites in Lebanon Thursday overnight. The Air Force bombed 57 Hizbullah structures, six rocket launchers, and a Hezbollah base in the Lebanon Valley.

Nasrallah In Hiding?
The leader of Hizballah is believed to be hiding in the Iranian Embassy in Beirut, according to a report in Friday's Washington Times.

It appears that IDF ground forces will begin pushing farther north than they have currently.

A captain of the "Mexican Mafia" street gang arrested in Laredo
Gang member holds the position of Captain

LAREDO, Texas - A member of the violent “Mexican Mafia” street gang was arrested here Thursday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents while he tried to smuggle into the United States 12 aliens hidden in the back of a tractor-trailer.

Jorge Antonio Espinoza, 40, from Laredo, was in federal court this morning where he was charged with attempting to transport illegal aliens into the United States. Espinoza was denied bond and is expected to remain in federal custody pending his next hearing scheduled for Aug. 4.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) inspectors discovered the smuggled aliens when Espinoza tried to pass through the checkpoint located near Interstate Highway 35 near Laredo. The aliens were found hidden in the back of the tractor-trailer during the secondary inspection process.

“Individuals who seek to threaten the safety of our communities, such as members of violent street gangs, will be sought out and brought to justice,” said Alonzo Pena, special agent-in-charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in San Antonio. “Espinoza is a smuggler who has no regard for human life. He attempted to transport 12 people inside a refrigerated tractor-trailer where they could have suffered severe medical complications.”

Espinoza is one of the captains of the “Mexican Mafia” that operates in Laredo. His criminal history ranges from possessing drugs to escaping from prison.

The immigrants discovered inside the trailer were citizens of Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico. All 12 remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of their immigration cases.

This arrest is the latest law enforcement action under Operation Community Shield, a nationwide ICE anti-gang initiative to disrupt, dismantle and assist in criminally prosecuting violent gangs by employing the full range of law enforcement authorities available to ICE.

Operation Community Shield was launched in February 2005 targeting MS-13 gang members, and was expanded in May 2005 to target all gangs. An ICE assessment identified that most gang members were foreign-born, in the United States illegally, had prior criminal convictions, and/or were involved in crimes that made them subject to ICE's extensive immigration and customs authorities.

ICE uses its unique immigration authorities (both criminal and administrative) to target foreign-born gang members. ICE also uses its customs authorities to target gang-related narcotics smuggling, gun smuggling, money laundering, and in seeking forfeiture of illegally derived assets.

GULFPORT, MS- Three illegal aliens were arrested Tuesday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents for using fraudulent documents and making false statements to gain employment at the Gulfport-Biloxi Regional Airport.

The announcement was made by Michael A. Holt, Special Agent-in-Charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in New Orleans and United States Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi Dunn Lampton.

The men, all Mexican nationals, were identified as Jose Miranda-Guerrero, 20, Nelson Solis-Hernandez, 18, and Marcelo Perez-Martinez, 24. They worked for an airport sub-contractor and were applying for training at the Gulfport-Biloxi Regional Airport in an effort to receive airport security identification badges. Airport personnel contact ICE special agents to examine the document presented by the aliens. Subsequent analysis by ICE revealed that the documents were fraudulent.

All of the men were arrested and transported to the Harrison County Detention Center.

Critical infrastructure facilities such as airports, shipyards, defense installations and bio-agriculture industries are a primary law enforcement priority for ICE.

"This was an important law enforcement action based upon a strategic plan," said Holt. "Protecting the integrity of our nation's critical infrastructure in Mississippi is a crucial part of ICE's continuing enforcement strategy. When individuals use fraudulent documents to get jobs, they hide their true identity and history. We need to know who is working in our critical infrastructure sites.”

"Because national security is our absolute number-one priority, it's imperative that we operate seamlessly and in partnership to use all the resources at our disposal and to make absolutely sure that the industries that provide for our defense and commerce are not vulnerable to, or threatened by individuals who operate under fraudulent identities,” said Lampton.

All men have been charged with possessing counterfeit documents in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. 1546(a). Assistant United States Attorney Gaines Cleveland will handle the prosecution of the cases.
