The quarterfinal round concludes with a pair of enticing match-ups. The day's first match pits England against Portugal (10:30 a.m. ET, ABC) in Gelsenkirchen, while a rematch of the 1998 final between Brazil and France (3:00 p.m. ET, ESPN) will wrap the Round of 8.

Right off the bat, ESPN coverage (specifically that pile Eric Wynalda) said the ref should be booted out of soccer for throwing a red card on Rooney that he clearly didn't see. Eric claims that the ref didn't see the stomp and only threw the red after the whining Man-U "teammate" "sold out" his friend Rooney.
Can you believe that crap?
What a cr**! Mr. Musberger deserves the award for the most stupid comment today.
I thought he meant "the match seemed to go on for ages."
Exactly my thinking. My breakfast yesterday was "one for the ages," too. It joins all the other breakfasts I've had in my life. :-)
Well he's known for hyperbole. Not a very good sportscaster IMO.
England's major problem at all levels of sport is psychological. They are either the ultimate bottle boys or lack the ability to finish someone off when they are down.
I thought that might have been changing with England's victory in the 2003 Rugby World Cup and in the Ashes last year. But even there they can't take things to the next level like the Aussies would and go for world domination. They reach a peak and then drop off very, very quickly because there isn't enough depth (or depth of character) to sustain pre-eminence.
I don't want to be over critical today of all days but the heroic failure you talk of gets tedious after a while.
If you are a great side, packed with players of steely resolve, you win penalty shoot outs. Yes it's a lottery but it's not all down to bad luck either...
I don't understand most of the words, but the Spanish TV coverage of the Cup is 100 times better than those lame ABC announcers.
England will win the next european cup. with another couch
imagine what gus Hiddink could do for such a great Team as the english one
Maybe the check from Versailles is no longer open. They paid their price for that, and so did we for our revenge.
It sounds like the ESPN commentators are worse than BBC!
Rooney's an idiot and had to go.
Wynalda, I remember, was the victim of the worst red card decision in World Cup history in 1990 so maybe that's coloured his judgement.
I'm off to the boozer soon; you around for Drudge tomorrow?
"the heroic failure you talk of gets tedious after a while"
Couldn't agree with you more. But that's the angle the UK media will always take.
Bottom line-England are not good enough. Too many average, over-rated players.
Well, people in England will be talking about it for the next 4 years. That's what makes the World Cup so special, it's not "Wait Till Next Year" if you blow it, most likely the same players will not be back, so you've got one shot.
Having Rooney as a lone striker is even more pointless than having Crouch but, yes, it's not a great tactic, period.
A pint of bitter and a lovely Brazilian lady beckons.
I shall bid you adieu.
Yep, I'm spending this holiday weekend at home with my family. I'll be here all weekend. It's our Independence Day on Tuesday. :-)
Allright, I am starting to get over the initial hurt.
I guess I support Brazil now against France.
If you want to find out your brazilian name use this link
Apparently, I am Frildo :-)
