Latino convention puts Milwaukee in middle of immigration debate

Thousands of people and top national politicos have been gathering this week for the national League of United Latin American Citizens convention, making Milwaukee and area Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner central figures in the national immigration debate.

Sensenbrenner won't attend and national GOP leader Ken Mehlman had to cancel because of weather problems back east. But DNC Chair Howard Dean made it and Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, NAACP President Bruce Gordon, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Jesse Jackson are due in today and tomorrow.

By the time it's done, the convention is expected to draw nearly 10,000 people to the city bordering the Sensenbrenner's congressional district. The Menomonee Falls Republican has been the lightning rod for angry Hispanics. Sensenbrenner, head of the House Judiciary Committee, proposed a bill that would felonies and expel undocumented workers, quite different than fellow Republican President George Bush's plan to establish a guest worker program that Sensenbrenner has said is tantamount to "amnesty" for an estimated 11 million Hispanics in the U.S. who are not citizens.

Darryl Morin, deputy state director for LULAC Wisconsin, said Sensenbrenner has declined numerous invitations to speak in front of the group. Morin said arrangements were even made to work around his schedule.

“We have invited him to events, given him advance notice of the LULAC conference and made an effort to reach out to him personally,” Morin said. “He said we scheduled his speech for a day we knew he could not make it, but that is not true."

But Sensenbrenner spokesman Raj Bharwani said the LULAC organizers were aware that the House would be voting this week and that the Friday slot they offered him would not work.

"There's no way he's going to be in Wisconsin when he's scheduled to be here voting. That's his job," Bharwani said. "They've known for a long time he couldn't make it on Friday."

Yolanda Santos Adams, LULAC state director, says politicians like Sensenbrenner want to create a one-size-fits-all solution to two separate problems - border security and citizenship. "The border security is very important to everyone," she said. "(But) we have to come to a solution where the least amount of people get hurt."

As the convention ends Saturday at the Midwest Airlines Center, Voces de la Frontera members are planning to be at the Midwest Airlines Center for an 8 a.m. rally with civil right leader Dolores Huerta. Then supporters are to gather at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 621 S. 4th St., to participate in a nationwide campaign called "Democracy Summer" which is "designed to help a million eligible individuals become citizens and voters."

Latino activists say they will also conduct a non-partisan neighborhood outreach in four wards to identify eligible voters and persons interested in citizenship class registration and English as a Second Language class registration.

Some participants will also be writing letters to their legislative representatives and attaching them to a construction worker's glove to remind the politicians about the hard work and economic contributions the immigrant workforce makes to this country.

ICE won't attend either. Makes me sick to see the Federal enforcement people cower in fear of being called some foolish name. Yup...sure these same cowards can enforce the amnesty program...NOT.

Why is there a strategy to divide Americans?

If there were an European heritage caucus to call for more immigration from Ireland or special rights for European decedents, such as erasing back taxes, or forgiving document fraud, would it make headline news if somebody could or could not attend? No, the fact that there would be this type of caucus to begin with would be the focus.

Another example, take the democrats strategy for winning the governors race in California; Phil Angelides is running against Arnold in November. Looking at the endorsements for Angelides (http://www.angelides.com/endorsements/) he cites Elected Officials, of course, including Barbara Boxer and Nancy Pelosi, members from the teachers union, Labor Organizations, Environmental Leaders, and all the usual conspirators.

But also listed, are the African American Leaders, Latino Leaders/Organizations, Asian Pacific Islander Leaders, but while notably absent are any groups with the names such as English language leaders, or European American Organization, native born California’s, or Patriotic leaders, or Veterans or Just plain American Leaders?

No the strategy is clear, these people plan to meet, and plot a strategy to accuse racism to any one that doesn’t agree with their left wing socialist agenda, while at the same time, the height of hypocrisy is displayed with the absence of the call for diversity and the erasing of ethic special interests so that we can work together to be called just plain American.

You cheesers got a problem: really gross vote fraud, especially in Milwaukee. It was plenty bad enough before it was en español, but now, with your illegal alien Motor Voters and their more-or-less automatic registration, I won't be surprised if some Milwaukee precincts top Philly's precinct record of 102% turnout for Al Gore.

What are your plans to end this outrage? If I have to handle this personally, it ain't gonna be pleasant. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

Here in California, the numbers of illegal aliens voting in November will be staggering. The filthy invaders tasted blood on May day and openly encouraged by politicians such as LA's "no illegals here" Mayor will be voting in herds. Clinton's motor voter bill and the democrat defeat of every identification requirement allows voter fraud to be committed without any real effort.

"If I have to handle this personally, it ain't gonna be pleasant. No more Mr. Nice Guy."

Be my guest. Start with kicking some @ss in our Wisconsin GOP, could ya?

Other than that, for me, personally, I vote in every election and am a Poll Worker, so I can say that I've never let anyone vote fraudlently in my town. It's not so bad here in Cow Town, eventhough we're located in Dane County. I'm currently working on the Mark Green campaign, to toss Doyle out on his rear. I worked for him last weekend, glad-handing and passing out information and will be attending a few fundraisers throughout the summer months.

I regularily contact Feingold, Baldwin and Kohl about election reform in Wisconsin...none have ever returned an e-mail or a letter. Naturally. None of them would be where they are today without fraudulent votes.

And that's about it for now.

Wow. KEN MEHLMAN planned to attend a LULAC convention and KARL ROVE is going to speak at a LA RAZA convention.

What's wrong with this picture?

League of United Latin American Citizens

Shouldn't this convention be held in a Latin American country?

Oh.... Wait...

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on.
