UNTIL he was captured by Palestinian militants last Sunday there was little to distinguish Gilad Shalit from the tousands of other teenagers doing military service in the Israeli army.

In other words, "tell them what they want to hear so they'll start sending money again."
"Largely obscured by the kidnap drama, Hamas made a potentially historic concession on Tuesday by implicitly recognising Israel in a deal with the mainstream Fatah movement that could lead to a government of national unity."
Mainstream Media Cognitive Dissonance
Mainstream media coverage of the latest Palestinian Big Lie (the prisoners document that does not recognize Israel) has reached a level of delusional doublethink thats quite disturbing.
Heres an Agence France Presse article that literally refutes itself: Hamas takes defining step towards Israel recognition.
The first paragraph:
GAZA CITY (AFP) - The governing Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas has taken a key step towards recognising Israel after reaching a deal on a crisis-solving plan that implicitly recognises its archfoes right to exist.
The fourth and fifth paragraphs:
However, members of the powerful Islamist movement, which has long advocated the destruction of the Jewish state, denied there was any hint of recognising Israel in the initiative, as drawn up by jailed faction leaders.
The prisoners initiative does not include recognising the legitimacy of the occupation in any clear or straightforward way Hamas MP Khalil Abu Leila told AFP, denying that accepting the 1967 borders meant implicit recognition.
This is cognitive dissonance on a massive scale.
UPDATE at 6/28/06 6:03:30 pm:
At Scylla & Charybdis, Bummerdietz has been working the cognitive dissonance angle since back in the day:
Mo Hinchey, Meet Tommy Flanagan.
CogDis II: Tommy Flanagan, Meet Howard Dean.
CogDis and the Snarky Monk.
I just know they've killed him, I pray if they did it was fast, not slow and tortuous.
The poor kid, what a hardship for his family.
What monsters.
"This is cognitive dissonance on a massive scale."
This is Islam.
prayer bump
Wonder if they have noticed that Hamas proxies have claimed to have fired a chemical warhead into Israel (yes, that would be a WMD): http://today.reuters.com/news/newsarticle.aspx?type=topNews&storyid=2006-06-29T013909Z_01_L29258645_RTRUKOC_0_US-MIDEAST-ROCKET.xml&src=rss&rpc=22
The thinking world's patience is gone. I do believe the gloves are well and truly about to come off...
They have found his body. He was shot, probably on Sunday. http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1150885858552&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
Meanwhile, the IDF has rounded up about 30 of Hamas' "leaders." They should be executed in reprisal. That's the only language these sub-human scum understand...
According to American Liberals, there are "no" WMDs. Saddam destroyed them. All the chemical suits we found in Iraq were for Trick or Treat. Calling Nancy Pelosi; surely she has a speech to make about this.
That was the kidnapped young civilian who was killed, not the kidnapped young soldier. The civilian's name was Asheri; the soldier is Gilad(?)
The cognitive dissonance is on the part of Agence Presse France, who call it a "step forward" even as Hamas explicitly denied that it did changed a thing.
BBC reportage was much more fair. They recognized that Hamas and Fatah reached an agreement to declare a state on the disputed territories, but also quoted at length the Hamas leaders denying any recognition of Israel, and even reporting that Hamas told them they beleive all of Israel is "occupied land" that will one day be "reclaimed" and that there was "no room for a Jewish state" on "historic Palestine".

Now if only the BBC had the courage to report that when Hamas says "historic Palestine" they are also laying claim to Jordan.
Prayers for this young man.}
MEANWHILE Israel has arrested 80 Hamas honchos and will be holding them until Shalit is set free. So Israel now has it's own hostages. Good move!
bump!
An historic opportunity for the Israelis to seize the world stage by playing the politics of victimhood. Hope they don't blow it.
UNLEASH ISRAEL!
