GREENSBURG, Ind. (AP) — Honda Motor Co. said Wednesday it will build an auto assembly plant near the city as part of a $1.18 billion global expansion.

The $550 million factory will evenutally employ 2,000 workers and produce 200,000 vehicles annually, officials said at a news conference.

The Japanese automaker announced in May that it planned to build its sixth North American plant in the Midwest, but did not say where. Officials from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin promoted sites in their states.

And although my husband bought a Dodge Ram, he seriously considered the Titan and the Ridgeline.

He'll get the Ridgeline next time after replacing his third transmission within 40,000 miles on the Ram. (I have a co-worker who this happened to last year...)

When Evan Bayh ran for governor against John Mutz, Evan said getting the Subaru factory was a BAD deal.

When Evan Bayh (D) was governor, getting the Toyota factory was a GREAT deal.

Now that Mitch Daniels (R) is governor, I wonder if getting the Honda factory is a BAD deal again......

If they can’t be bothered to build the best, why should I be bothered to buy them?

GM has a deeply ingrained culture of mediocrity. They design cars JUST good enough and move them with rebates.

I’ve owned several Chevys but I now own three Hondas (S2000, Civic Si, CBR 600 F4 Motorcycle) and the difference in design and quality is STUNNING.

The only WORLD CLASS car being built by GM is the Corvette (especially the Z06).

That's 100 vehicles per worker. I wonder what the ratio at Ford and GM is.

My history of owning vehicles is similar to yours. I owned a Chevy, Pontiac, and Olds before I bought my first Honda Accord in 1996. The Olds was a 1993 and it hit 38,000 in 1994 and sure enough the alternator, compressor went out and the paint started peeling at that time. My Honda didn't have a major problem till I hit 84,000. Then I made the stupid mistake of trading it in 2003 for a Ford 150 Supercrew which in turn, the fuel injection went to trash at 42,000. It's fun to drive, but I know I'll have more problems before to long. Hopefully Honda or Toyota will come out with a higher mileage per gallon full sizepickup before too long. My bet is one of them will before Ford, GM or Dodge.

Needless to say I think I'm done with the big three. Last fall we bought a Toyota Sienna mini van for our family vehicle and it's quality is fantastic and I actually enjoy driving it after I once said years ago I wouldn't be caught driving a mini van. And for all of the Toyota bashers, the van was made in Indiana, USA.

This new Honda plant will likely be building the Honda Fit subcompact in 2008 as the first production model--likely the new version that replaces the current Fit model sold in the USA. Expect Honda to build as many as 200,000 Fits at the this new plant.

Although my inline 6 F-150 has been a great truck for 6 years, I'm getting a Ridgeline later this year. I can't park my truck in my garage and I can't get 4WD without going to V8 (more expensive and more problems).

>> So I hope there is another choice, too.

It pains me to not like Mitch, but between the I-69 extension (pure waste of money) and the tow road lease issues, he really makes me shake my head.

And DST didn't' help matters.

For all of you Japanese lovers, you obviously don't look at statistics, you should. I would guess a fair number of you would have sold your fellow soldier out for an extra rice ball on the Bataan death march. . .how pathetic your little retched lives must be.

I get my information from owning American and Japanese cars. My Honda's have been several orders of magnitude better designed and built than any Ford or Chevy I've owned.

It won't be long until the Honda/Toyota bashers will try to counter you.

Uh oh, looks like we got one! See posts 31 and 32.

You mean those statistics that show Honda and Toyota to be more reliable, cheaper, safer, and more fuel efficient than Ford or GM? Those statistics?

"I am not sure where you get your information from but it is dead wrong, just like the MSM elites blame America first you have succumbed to anti-americanism"

From actually owning the vehicles built by the said companies.

Next question.

I believe you are incorrect. Everyone wants a strong domestic auto industry. The quickest way to get there is to put Ford and GM out of their misery. It's the patriotic thing to do.

I guess you better open up your computer, digital camera and many other electronic devices and throw out any parts that are developed or made in Japan.

Look, I hate what the Japanese did to us back then and my dad fought in the Pacific in WWII. But some fifty years later they are some of the best friends we have in the world. They have stood by by us in the Gulf and Afghanistan unlike our "friends" the French and Germans.

My crazy friend, please log off FR and go settle down. When you are a little more sane, come back and give us your "statistics".

I'm sure your house has nothing Japanese, Italian, or German in it since we are still fighting the Axis powers and all...
