GREENSBURG, Ind. (AP) Honda Motor Co. said Wednesday it will build an auto assembly plant near the city as part of a $1.18 billion global expansion.
The $550 million factory will evenutally employ 2,000 workers and produce 200,000 vehicles annually, officials said at a news conference.
The Japanese automaker announced in May that it planned to build its sixth North American plant in the Midwest, but did not say where. Officials from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin promoted sites in their states.

Not only that, but Honda and Toyota seem to be more than able to build VERY high quality CARS (not trucks) in America at a profit.
A fair bit of GM problems can be laid at the feet of the Unions, BUT the fact is 25 years later they still can't build a car as good as and Accord or Camry.

Someone has to build more fuel efficient cars. Ford or Chevy won't. They are still pushing heavy gas guzzler trucks and suvs.

I'm still buying heavy gas guzzler trucks and SUVs. I like them. More power, more safety, more comfort....

The Indiana(polis) economy continues to gain momentum. Between the airport projects, stadium, convention center, housing towers, distribution plants, Fed-Ex and Lilly, we are running out of undocumented workers here.
Shhhhhh. Don't tell anyone else in the country. We'll keep it our little secret.

Yeah! All those Japanese jobs going to American workers. That kind of outsourcing must really make the Japanese angry.

You know...I try to be a good little republican, but my mess Mitch drives me freakin crazy
Between the way he handled the DST debacle, the toll road lease, and his way of ignoring any voice outside of Marion County...I hope some brave republican runs against him in the next gov race so Mess Mitch doesn't get out of the primary!
BTW: yeah for the future IN employees of Honda

We are a Honda supplier.
It's a great company to do business with.
They cultivate an enthusiastic, innovative, productive and empowered workforce. My husband works for a company with a union. I am amazed at the amount of WASTE his company experiences due to the sloth of its workers who are protected by the union.
The Japanese manufacturers are getting into big trucks. And although my husband bought a Dodge Ram, he seriously considered the Titan and the Ridgeline.

Mitch just isn't the 'Man' I thought I was voting for.
So I hope there is another choice, too.

Nail, meet hammer. You got it. It won't be long until the Honda/Toyota bashers will try to counter you. Too bad this story couldn't have contained Wal Mart in it and it would be bombs away.
It's funny to see the protectionist wing of FR try to defend the mediocrity of GM and Ford as far as cars go. They make good trucks and SUV's, but that's about it.
