Radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh is joking about his police detainment at the airport yesterday for carrying Viagra in his luggage.
"I've been racking my brain. I'm trying to figure out how Bob Dole's luggage got on my airplane," Limbaugh clowned as he opened his national program today. "I told the doctor, I said, 'Look, I'm worried about the next election, not ... .' A misunderstanding. Now, things are what they are."
Former Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas is well-known for his use and endorsement of Viagra, a male sexual-enhancement drug.
The host then changed subjects to discuss his visit Friday to the White House, but later opened his second hour with more jokes.
"The people at Customs were as nice as they could be. They just didn't believe me when I told them that I got those pills at the Clinton Library gift shop, and they told me at the Clinton Library gift shop that it was just blue M&Ms. ... I know a lot of people who don't even need Viagra. [They] just look at themselves in the mirror and the problem's taken -- many of them in Washington, many of them Republicans, too."
Limbaugh was held up for more than three hours at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities found a bottle of pills in his possession prescribed to someone else.
"The problem was that on the bottle itself was not his name, but the name of two Florida doctors," Palm Beach County Sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller told the Associated Press. "He said he had the Viagra in his possession for his use and that he did obtain it from his doctors."
Investigators confiscated the pills, and Limbaugh was released without being charged, though the sheriff's office plans to file a report with the state attorney's office.
"We believe there may be a second degree misdemeanor violation, which is possession of certain drugs without a prescription, because the bottle does not have his name on it," Miller, a former FBI agent, said.
Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, issued a statement noting a doctor had prescribed the drug, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes."
In April, Limbaugh and the Florida state attorney, Democrat Barry Krischer, reached a settlement in a long-running prescription-drug investigation of the conservative radio giant, who termed the matter a political witch hunt as well as a "fishing expedition" by prosecutors.
Under the agreement, a single charge of doctor shopping was to be dismissed in 18 months if Limbaugh continues to seek treatment from the doctor he has seen for the past two and a half years for back pain.
"Mr. Limbaugh and I have maintained from the start that there was no doctor shopping," said Black at the time, "and we continue to hold this position. Accordingly, we filed today with the Court a plea of 'Not Guilty' to the charge filed by the State.
"As part of this agreement, Mr. Limbaugh also has agreed to make a $30,000 payment to the state of Florida to defray the public cost of the investigation. The agreement also provides that he must refrain from violating the law during this 18 months, must pay $30 per month for the cost of 'supervision' and comply with other similar provisions of the agreement.
"Mr. Limbaugh had intended to remain in treatment. Thus, we believe the outcome for him personally will be much as if he had fought the charge and won."
That's why he's fed-EX
"You can be sure that if this had been a liberal instead of Rush, the Left would be screaming bloody murder."
Amen! Could you imagine if this story were about Clinton's Valtrex prescription??
I don't know why you make it personal, it`s about concepts and perceptions. Going to church is actually not about "being perfect".
I mentioned Rush because he is a public figure and he invites discussion. But it isn't a matter of Rush not being perfect.
I have never met a perfect person in my life and had not claimed to, including myself.
Perhaps your definition of "conservative" and others' definition of "conservative" are different. I welcome people who don't spend Sundays in church and don't have families to sit with in said church to join the conservative political movement, assuming they agree with the logic of certain key principles (e.g., smaller government-- from which everything else flows).
There is a difference between living a socially conservative life (which plenty of political "liberals" do) and being politically conservative. You seem to have the two confused.
If it is (and I assume it is) his prescription, the people who revealed it to the press might be guilty of violating HIPPA.
Rush constantly refers to himself as a conservative. And my post had nothing to do with being "perfect" or faulting Rush other than saying he is misguided about what a conservative really is. I never said Rush was a bad man just that he is not a conservative, he is at most a Republican and I don't see that as being a bad thing.
"Limbaugh was held up for more than three hours" Freakin' reporters.
"There is a difference between living a socially conservative life (which plenty of political "liberals" do) and being politically conservative. You seem to have the two confused."
I find the above to be very confused. Could you name one such Liberal?
I pray that Jesus would tell you to shutup.
You sanctimonious bore, you! It is NOT for you to decide just who is a Conservative and who isnt. Limbaugh is as Conservative as they get, and we are ALL sinners. Dont forget that.
Okay Rush... I think I know whats causing the BACK PAIN!!!
right on, Dog!
While cocaine floods Krischers state
He can hardly contain his vile hate
It gives him a rush
To go after Rush
And that makes him feel just great
He was pretty big for awhile but he slimmed down pretty well. The big guy is just making up for lost time. Most women don't want to bop fat guys.
For many men who have had their prostate removed, it's the only way to have intercourse. Viagra alone won't do it.
Real men don't have ED.
sorry ... I missed that he was coming or going to outside of the country.
Indeed, what a pile of crap!
I suppose that God himself took the time to personally tell you that. I would expect that kind of mindless thought process from a muslim -- "if you don't believe as I do you are worthless and insignificant". You have no idea what is in the heart of anybody who does not sit in church every Sunday whether it involves politics or religious beliefs. This country needs your mindset about as much as it needs the democrat party.
