Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel

Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath” about his network’s recent ratings slide – and has given notice to staffers that he’s willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.

The cable news channel’s overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.

Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.

Ailes is said to be "fuming” over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.

He feels production values are slipping and bookers aren’t aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.

A full-page "Now Hiring” ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?”

Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.”

An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who don’t will not. And that includes talent.”

Re: ED Hill

She keeps hawking her damn book. Why would anyone want to read what she has to say?

It's just ridiculous.

I used to watch H & C, but it's degenerated into the FNC version of Jerry Springer. I just won't watch it any more.

I hadn't noticed. I don't watch that show anymore. Too much E.D. and Dooce, not enough Kilmeade and Tiki.

For me, some of the "liberals" objections about Fox are often correct; such as (1)a seeming emphasis on "sexy" looks and "sexy" dressing of the gals (the video store at the news hour); (2)Michael Jackson, or Natalie Halloway, or (who was thay guy who murdered his wife-with-child in California) 24/7 for days on end (blah, blah, blah); (3)opinions offered in the "news" formats that too often might, in sum, seem good to "us", but also too often are offered with too little intelligence (some "conservative" commentators) and thus (sounding supportive to us but) not offering a intelligent rational for that support. (As if merely saying what you think your audience wants to hear is enough, but not really understanding why.)

Yes, in brief, as much as I like what one would call the summary editorial view of Fox, I think its presentation of that view seems "dumb" at times.

I quit watching Fox last year. It does not offer any "news" or opinion that I do not have 100s of other sources for.

Now unless it turns out to be a fallacious story to discredit FNC, I lost respect for Ailes when he issued the "no balance" rule on FNC's global warming special. It was reported that he said global warming was too important to muddy the issue by having skeptical scientists denying it. I wouldn't punish his good hosts because of that action, but they are few and far between anyway. When I watch at all, it's basically Cavuto and Hume. Gibson's alright, but the prime time lineup is pretty much death.

"Hannity and Combs is too predictable"

Just change it to Hannity after they fire Combs!

Yes, less Greta and more news taken from FR.

And by the way, where's that HOT blonde, Laurie? Now there's a ratings booster right there.

he closed one of his shows by mentioning the Swiftvets and then saying "those liars".

I saw that and perceived it as mocking the liberals. I guess it's all perception.

I want Dayside WITH LINDA VESTER back.

Until she is there, I will not watch it. (Ok, I do like it when the audience turns on liberal guests, but I shouldn't.)

I actually like Hemmer. When he was with CNN I watched their coverage of the Pope's funeral because it was done with the most repsect and dignity and it was due to Hemmer's ancoring ability. He was excellent.

Just because the guy is from CNN doesn't automatically make him a bias newsman. Major Garrett is also a former CNN guy and a great addition to FNC.

Don't forget to include Shep Smith on your list. During that same period he closed one of his shows by mentioning the Swiftvets and then saying "those liars".

Thanks. I had forgotten, but Smith irritated me once too often, and I started tuning him out as well.

Sorry to hear that Asman is on the back burner. I never watch Hannity because of Combs and all the arguing back and forth. It's TEDIOUS. I never watch Greta with Holloway, etc. At those times, I'm forced to watch Rachael Ray on the Food Network spend $40 a day when dining in a nice vacation spot...Or What Not to Wear on TLC Friday nights... Or watch people buy houses on HGTV...

Add Ellis Henican to the list. He is the most annoying, whiny ass of all! Everytime he is on, I just wish that someone is going to slap him silly. I know if I were there, I would!

I might watch weekends more if they can metrosexual Julian.

I'm with you. How about a show, "Julian Goes to Bootcamp." I'd tune in for that.
