Because it can have very severe side effects, including blindness, and it can kill if taken along with some other drugs such as alpha blockers like Cardura, commonly prescribed both for prostate problems and hypertension.

Good point, but that still doesn't justify it to me why it's prescription only as far as I'm concerned. It can also kill you if you take 1,000 Tylenol tablets in a single dosage that can be purchased my anyone OTC, if you chose to do so . One has to assume some common sense at times when it comes to medicine.
