ROTTEN HUBBY SOLD OUR HOME AND FLED

June 25, 2006 -- A Brooklyn anesthesiologist callously ditched his wife and three kids, leaving them homeless after he secretly sold their house and fled the country with all their money, the wife alleges. Dr. Raihan Chowdhury was deemed a fugitive Wednesday for ignoring repeated court orders to provide for his hapless family.

His wife, Sharmin Sultana, who gave up her career as a gynecologist to become a full-time mom, is now broke and staying at a women's shelter with the couple's two daughters and toddler son.

All while her husband lives in luxury in his native Bangladesh, possibly having remarried without getting a divorce here, according to her divorce documents and her lawyer's statements in Brooklyn Family Court.

You might as well talk to a wall as try to reason with the bitter divorced male contingent here.

Really, instead of 'ad hom' attacks, try to argue--using reason--against my proposition that women in America have the same rights as men in a muslim country.

This guy simply acted like any woman in a divorce.

Even though he's done horrible things, we must be tolerant of his actions, otherwise we are all racists. </sarcasm>

Why don't you give some examples of how women in America have the same rights as men in a Muslim country? All I've seen so far is your blanket statement to that effect.

Well, you'd think some of rascal's colleagues would chip in and
help the lady and the kids get back on their feet.

But I guess in socialist states, it's just bad form to not tap the
state treasury for every conceivable life problem.

If you don't remember, then it is in my best interest not to remind you!

Yes, this is a terrible story and it is far worse than it would be for the average American woman. You are quite right about the cultural differences, but I'd bet my eye teeth that this exact same kind of sneaky, lying jerk was around in the caveman days! Bad men are bad men. That's all. I know divorced men and women, and have heard some really corkers about the divorces, but I think you have to admit, this woman's story is beyond the beyonds. Evidently, nobody in that closed community gave her one bit of warning or even a helping hand. As bad and rotten as the doctor husband is, it is even more appalling that he had help.

You are also right about this beautiful Sunday. My local weatherman couldn't have been more wrong, I could kiss him!
Mr. X and I are still house hunting, so that will be my day.
We are scheduled for seven open houses in three counties today. After reading this story, I'm going to make sure I speak to BOTH husband and wife before I decide anything!!!

She may need to live on public assistance while she studies for her tests ,but she can over come what that rat did to her. In a couple of months she could be sitting pretty again. She needs to make sure the rat never is allowed to be with his children again. If he takes the kids to Bangladesh , she will never see them again.

I have known of several families who put the house in the husband and his mothers name. Then the wife and the children are helpless and SOL.

California state law allows that. Texas has the homestead law which protects the spouse. Florida has a similar provision. It's all predicated on what state law says since it's not a fed issue.

Actually, in Florida, the property must be in at least one of the spouses' names. If you put it in the name of the husband's mother, I don't think it's protected. But the wife should know better than to let the property be in the husband's mother's name--and so should the husband! If it's in the husband's name, everything is fine.

It wouldn't be protected if the property was in the husband's mothers name but I've yet to see a mortgage company give what would be tatamount to a non-secured note so the mother would be the one also qualifying for the loan. A cash transaction I could see or where the mother is buying the property for the kids to live in but not where the spouse is the purchaser with loan proceeds. In that case both spouses must sign the mortgage.

True, but he sure did try! He had taken the wife's money, credit cards, and the passports out of her purse. Sold the house. Stole all the money. His TROP pals helped him and never even warned this woman not to leave the U.S.

The article says that the three children are aged 8,6, and 3.
They are all living in a homeless shelter after sleeping on a bare floor for weeks. There was a book and movie some years ago about this same situation. It was called, "Not Without My Daughter" and it is a true story. After it was released, many stories of children kidnapped to Muslim countries came to light. There is a website about this, also. As heartbreaking as this woman and the other women's stories are, what I'm really struck by is the barbarity of the Muslim countries. Not the names or the customs, it is the mindset that is so completely wrong, more it is evil and dangerous for women. Where are our Leftie Libbers and NOW feminists for these women?

Chowdhury can be a Hindu or Muslim last name but his first name Raihan seems very Muslim. This rat seems to be Muslim, I'm certain 85%

My ex did roughly the same to me. Left, told me he was making the house payments, left me with HIS handicapped child and let the house go into foreclosure. Didn't even make the papers.

Yeah, the property is almost always in the name of at least one spouse anyway. Clearly, this NY case could not have happened in Fla.

Yep, NY law is different in that the non-qualifying spouse doesn't have to sign the mortgage.

She would need to get all her certifications/licenses/insurance along with ongoing educational requirements in order to start her practice again. That will take time maybe 6 months.

I think she could go to an number of medical organizations who would spot he startup costs she has option just a tough transition time.

I wondered also why the house wasn't in both of their names. Didn't people come to look at the house before buying? Something is odd. Anyway, with her MD degree, she should have no trouble finding a job.
