Ian's got the video of Murtha on Meet The Press.
Transcript here.
After criticizing Karl Rove's "fat backside," Murtha put forth his fat-headed Okinawa plan:
MR. RUSSERT: You say redeploy. Again, Mr. Rove challenges that comment.
Lets listen and give you again a chance to respond to the White House.
(Videotape, Monday):
MR. ROVE: Congressman Murtha said, Lets redeploy them immediately to another country in the Middle East. Lets get out of Iraq and go to another country.
My question is, what country would take us? What country would say after the United States cut and run from Iraq, what country in the Middle East would say,
Yeah. Paint a big target on our back and then youll cut and run on us. What country would say that? What country would accept our troops?
MR. RUSSERT: Whats your response?
REP. MURTHA... We can go to Okinawa.
MR. RUSSERT: But itd be tough to have a timely response from Okinawa.
REP. MURTHA: Well, ityou know, theywhen I say Okinawa, I, Im saying troops in Okinawa. When I say a timely response, you know, our fighters can fly from Okinawa very quickly...

Germany would also be closer...What a putz this guy is!
When are they going to open the investigation into funneling money through his brothers lobby clientele. This guy is getting our troops killed...He needs to go down!
Why do people like Murtha, and much of the left, even care so much that we have a military contingent in Iraq, in the first place? Yes, so we have a military contingent in Iraq. So what? What's it to them? Why do they obsess on it every day? Why? do? they? care?
Murtha's repeated comments make it clear that neither outright "pacifism" nor an isolationist "we shouldn't have troops overseas at all" can explain his stance. After all, he's all too willing to pull the troops to Kuwait or Okinawa or North Korea for all I know, he salivates over permanent bases and long bombing runs and pretends that he still cares about the ability to go after the Zarqawis of the world. He's no peacenik hippy.
That said, his (boneheaded, inexplicable) position is: ANYWHERE BUT IRAQ. For some reason he, and his followers, seems to be ok with our troops being ANYWHERE as long as they aren't in Iraq. Iraq is special, a super magical off-limits-zone for the American military. Put the military next to Iraq, have them flit in and out, fly over it, bomb it, from elsewhere... a neighbor... Diego Garcia... Okinawa... Nantucket... somewhere. AS LONG AS IT'S NOT IRAQ ITSELF.
But why? What's the big deal - to him - about them being in Iraq? What's the big deal to any Democrat? I don't get it.
Here's what I think the answer is:
Bush put the military contingent in Iraq, and Bush wants it to stay in Iraq. Therefore, Democrats want it out of Iraq. That's enough for them. That's the extent of their geopolitical military-strategical thinking on the subject. Bush X, therefore they: not-X.
Seriously, just watch Democrats make dumb statements like these, and then you give me a better explanation.
I now think that Mister Murtha may be in need of...
1. a thorough drug screening, and/or
2. a comprehensive brain scan.
Okinawa?
.
It would probably be best illustrated by Murtha as a flying pig over Okinawa...heading the wrong way, to the wrong war, at the wrong time.
Hello. Welcome. How did you join 6-20-06? Just curious.
Can anyone post info on just what responsibilities the "heroic" John Murtha was performing in Viet Nam and what decorations he received? Did he receive J F'n Kerry types of decorations or did he actually earn some? Was he a REMF or was he a leader?
Depending on where you are posting from, you signed up tomorrow.
You mean we are about to hand back Okinawa to the Japanese, the same way we handed the Panama Canal back to the Panamanians?
LOL, what a brainiac. To Murtha life must be like rocket surgery.
The current plan is to redeploy most of the Marines stationed on Okinawa to Guam within the next several years.
"I think what people are forgetting is that Murtha has access to information about this incident that we aren't privy to. Because of his service, I have to believe that he wouldn't speak out unless he was 100% sure."
I believe you got Murfa mixed up with Mike Nifong. Otherwise, you have not one, but two strikes against you, posting when you're a brand spanking newbie and secondly being brain challenged.
"The current plan is to redeploy most of the Marines stationed on Okinawa to Guam within the next several years."
That's rough. In my experience (late 60's), Okinawa sucks but Guam? That's much worse even than Okinawa.
Out of curiosity, what's wrong with Guam? One of my friends is from there and he is always talking it up. If I get the opportunity, I'd like to visit someday.
Are we sure this drooling moron used to be a marine? I'm starting to wonder if maybe the real Murtha got kidnapped by space aliens, and they left a damaged and defective clone in his place ...
National Security: Contrary to popular opinion, Rep. John Murtha, the ex-Marine who called for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, is no hawk.
He may also soon be probed for misusing defense appropriations.
"If you want anything done on the committee, you go to Murtha."
He's delivered so much pork to his congressional district, an airport and a major highway are named after Murtha.
Ashdown and his nonpartisan watchdog group criticized Murtha for using the $417 billion fiscal 2005 Pentagon spending bill to give business to his lobbyist brother.
The Los Angeles Times in June reported that Murtha funneled nearly $21 million to 10 or more corporate clients of KSA Consulting, where Robert "Kit" Murtha is a senior partner.
Carmen Scialabba, a Murtha congressional aide for 27 years, is also a high-ranking official at KSA.
The newspaper Roll Call reported that there might be a House ethics committee investigation of Murtha's apparent improprieties.
But is that possible now that Murtha has become the media's "hawk with a conscience?"
Come to think of it, could Murtha have been thinking about a possible ethics investigation when he decided to throw himself into the public limelight last week?

"Since 1967, there have been at least three different accounts of the injuries that purportedly earned Murtha his Purple Hearts.
Those accounts also appear to conflict with the limited military records that are available, and Murtha has thus far refused to release his own military records."

You have that right. The only way you could defend anyone at that distance is with ICBMs. Is Murtha advocating that we use nuclear tipped ICBM in Iraqi? Of course if Murtha is saying that we will use nuclear weapons on anyone who messes with us he could be on to something.
