Sunday games in the 2006 FIFA World Cup will kick off at 9 a.m. ET (ABC) in Nuremburg with a meeting between the only two winless teams in Group F, Japan and Croatia. They will face each other knowing that a defeat will put an end to their World Cup adventures.
In their opening match against Australia, the Japanese could not maintain a 1-0 lead and they were scored on three times in the last 15 minutes. Croatia's debut was not any better, as Brazil's Kaka scored to give the South Americans a 1-0 win over the Europeans.
In Sunday's other Group F match in Munich (11:30 a.m. ET, ABC), Brazil will continue the defense of its title in facing Australia, which enters the game with high hopes after earning its first ever victory by defeating Japan 3-1. In that game, Tim Cahill became a 'Socceroo' hero when he scored two goals after coming off the bench.
Leipzig will be the stage of Sunday's only game in Group G, pitting 1998 champions France against the Republic of Korea (2:30 p.m., ABC), with the pressure of improving on their first game in which they could only muster a scoreless tie against Switzerland.

I think that`s what our guys said when they dropped two 500 lbs on Zarqawis head..."GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! GO GO GO GO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!"
The ESPN analysts all but declared a jihad against that ref after the game.
Yes, I'll admit I clicked the thread to see people bash soccer.
I am ashamed.
Then the MSM hit them with a red card.
No, just tired of seeing the same know-nothing comments day after day. Seriously, how original did you think a "soccer is boring" comment would be, really?
I feel exactly the same way by Inning #3 of ANY major league baseball game... (but I wouldn't go out of my way to enter a thread run by baseball fans and say it).
I thought I heard ABC say the Ref was from Uruguay, had been suspended for irregularities two World Cups ago and sat out the last Cup.
Meanwhile, it's game on!!
WOO-HOO!

The World Cup is exciting, country vs. country. One day the USA will win it.
You've never watched a Yankees game, then. ;) <-- here you take the clue to relax a bit.
Comparing baseball to soccer...OK. Once you strip away all the sentimental attachments (very strong on both sides) and look at the structure of each contest, soccer is...a game. Baseball is a project.
Seriously, I'm off now. Enjoy.
Terrible what FIFA is trying to do to this GREAT game...You noticed the way the Ref called the game the second half yesterday..That's how the game is normally called not this ticky tacky NBA b/s style officiating...I'm just glad there was no loser yesterday and still gave 2nd life to the USA..Italy should take care of business against the Czechs while the USA will have it's hands full after playing their you know what off against the Italians...Ghana is the Cup's surprise and playig like it can beat anyone right now...
No comparison to the NFL, that's for sure....NO COMMERCIALS...Just run your asssssssssssssss off...Basically, a huge chess game with skilled thoroughbreds..
Oh dear. Japan gives up a bad penalty. The bad thing is that it looked like the Japanese player was really attempting to play the ball and missed terribly.
Edit: big save!!!
I have taken some great naps during baseball games. There is a reason the game has a "seventh inning stretch." But baseball is everything good and male and American.
Anyway, I'll say that this little banter, even the mealy-mouthed freepmail I got, has been much mellower than any Yankees - Red Sox thread I've been on.
I'm off for good, now. Have fun.
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Good Morning and good day Team USA.
Croatia has already been stopped on a penalty.
Rockin good fun. It's the World's greatest tournament, don't ya know.
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
