The Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Susan Turnbull said on live radio that the U.S. troops “murdered” Zarqawi.

Brian Suits was Interviewing Susan Turnbull about the Iraq War and the death of Zarqawi when she said in context: “even after last weeks murder of Zarqawi”, then she caught herself and said “bombing of Zarqawi”.
Brian has replayed the clip a few times later in his show.
He was literally leaving the next "DAY"

Don't forget...these people think that any loss of life is tragic and unecessary. Even Zarqawi's.
I don't think it was meant to suggest the American military committed a sort of crime in his death.
Well, technically, it was a murder. We dropped bombs on him. No need to apologize for that. He was bombing us.
Yeah, murder is a loaded word to some people but killin' is killin'.

The distinction between 'murder' and 'kill' is that 'murder' connotes UNLAWFUL killing while a 'kill' in combat or within acceptable rules-of-engagement does not imply that those doing the killing did anything wrong.
Yes, the words are sometimes used almost interchangeably, but that is careless and inaccurate - in the English language 'murder' always implies wrongdoing while 'kill' is morally neutral until more facts are examined. All murders are forms of killing, but not all killing is murder (except perhaps in the eyes of pacifists who are at the extreme position).
It's simply what she thinks, that US forces committed a heinous act by killing the scumbag; like her boss Howie Dean she is unsure of al-Zarqawi's guilt and extremely concerned that he did not receive a full and fair trial with ACLU lawyers, Lynne Stewart, Ramsey Clark, and friends providing the best possible 'defense' for the arch-terrorist.
Someone should try really hard to get Howie Dean on record with some pointed, aggressive questioning about al-Zarqawi and Al Qaeda, etc. I'm sure that if Dean speaks honestly he will show the American public that he thinks dropping JDAMs on the terrorists was a terrible thing and that US forces should have risked their lives trying to capture these terrorists so that the ACLU could embrace them.
There's no serious question what Dean thinks about this, after his comments about Saddam, Bin Laden, etc. The only question is whether someone can get him on record with a new whopper showing once again how clueless and out-of-touch the leading Demagogues are.
Last I checked, killing the enemy in war is not murder--a rather important point obscured by King James's translators of the Scriptures into English.
The canons of St. Basil the Great (the source of the strictest penances applied in the Orthodox Church, normally lightened by economia if there is evidence of repentence) provides a penance of excommunication with communion on the deathbed only for murder, but a penance of three years excommunication for those who kill an enemy in war. (I would also note that penance is understood not as punishment, but as spiritual medicine--even justifiable homicide has baleful spiritual effects on the person doing the killing--and that we Orthodox also have special prayers of commemoration for Orthodox warriors, and for blessing the arms of Orthodox Christians going to war.)
