DENVER
A 15-year-old girl can enter into a common-law marriage in Colorado, and younger girls and boys possibly can, too, a state appeals court ruled Thursday.

Common-law marriage in Colorado doesn't have anything to do with the length of time a couple cohabits. It's determined by how much evidence there is that the couple held themselves out as married people. Did the woman change her name? Did they file joint tax returns? Do the neighbors think they are married? That sort of thing.
I'm 49, my oldest grandchild is 10 and if the pattern is repeated I have about 8 years before I become great-granny.
eeeek!
Thanks for the information. I don't know a lot about those things.
Having once been a 15 year old boy, I have no problem with that label, quite frankly. [grin]
I don't know about you but myself and friends were looking for or dating same age girlfriends. Nothing perverted about it. Sounds like you were more into having sex than a relationship. Perhaps trying to "lose those awkward teenage blues". -- Night Moves, Bob Seger.
I think your right, it is ok for muslims to marry girls as young as seven, and it doesn't even take the girls consent! Everybody's doing it, so it must be ok.
Either you want judges to make up law, or not. The Colorado legislature has failed to institute a minimum age for marriage, so the judge had to rely on common law. This ruling should be a wake up to the legislature to pass such a law, which would supercede this ruling. I can't believe that their was no such law up until now.
If the Sherman Brothers and Ringo Starr can wait until 16, then so should the fine folks in Colorado:
You come on like a dream, peaches and cream
Lips like strawberry wine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine
You're all ribbons and curls, ooh what a girl
Eyes that sparkle and shine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine
You're my baby, you're my pet
We fell in love on the night we met
You touched my hand, my heart went pop
Ooh, when we kissed I could not stop
You walked out of my dreams and into my arms
Now you're my angel divine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine
You're my baby, you're my pet
We fell in love on the night we met
You touched my hand, my heart went pop
Ooh, when we kissed I could not stop
You walked out of my dreams, and into my car
Now you're my angel divine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine
So did your parants aprove of you having post-marital sex at age 9? :)
Sounds like a spendid idea to me...........water borders 2 of the 3 sides of my pie shaped property already :)
I'll check this out further when I get back from work - talk to yo a bit later.
huh? I don't get it...but I was married before I gradieated from high school and got properly edumacated.,-)
I was supposed to be a joke, meaning that you must have gotten married at age 9. :)
Oh, well duh. (I told you I ain't smart)
Now that I'm old, fat, and gray, people don't comment about my kids so much. Back when I was in my early 40's it always shocked them that I was a grandma.
(Damn it I need some better hormones.)
I know people from Africa, non muslims, Christians actually, that were married when they were 14, I also know people from India that were married around the same age... They are regular upstanding people not deranged perverts.
Sure, but that same group is usually killed in other countries, my Ethiopian co-worker had no idea at all about homosexuality until he saw it here in the USA... He told me there is not even a word where he is from for lesbians...
Jebus, what an imagination! Time to get off the computer and turn the cable tv off and go outside for a spell. : )
WOW!!! I'm definitely a late-bloomer compared to you.
The report is not about common-law marriage.
