DENVER
A 15-year-old girl can enter into a common-law marriage in Colorado, and younger girls and boys possibly can, too, a state appeals court ruled Thursday.

Some are called "16 year olds."
Someone had to appreciate your post, Larry... fast, and funniest thing that caught me off-guard today! LOL! Thanks!
A historical note...this was common in the 1800s, but...one would hope our soceity would evolve over time.
38 and 15, that's just wack.
I don't think it's too hard to figure out why that was the case in Utah back in '76.
Not that they were alone in that sort of thing. I believe Hawaii's age of consent was 14 until recently. I think they were attracting too much of that kind of tourism.
#9 was better, though. :-)
"It appears that Colorado has adopted the common-law age of consent for marriage as 14 for a male and 12 for a female, which existed under English common law," the ruling said. "Nevertheless, we need only hold here that a 15-year-old female may enter into a valid common-law marriage."
Well maybe the legislature better establish some clear guidelines so the courts have something to follow before they have an outbreak of midle aged pedophiles marrying 12 yr olds.
Nope, in Alabama you can marry at 14 with parental consent.
See how far that lawsuit goes.
When English common law came in to being, wasn't the live expectancy around 30?

"Some are called "16 year olds.""
True enough, but they aren't really doing searches for the 15 year olds. They're all around them. Most of the 16-year-old boys I know search for somewhat older women on the internet. Not too many 15 year old girls on the porn sites, I'd guess.
Obviously, I'm not talking about teenagers and their relationships.
I must have been a late bloomer. I'm in my mid-forties and my oldest child is 8.
lol
The key factor in finding a common law marriage is that the couple holds themselves out to the community as being married, not the amount of time they've been together.
There are lots of folks out there looking for 15-year-old girls. I think they're called perverts.
Obviously you are blissfully ignorant that you just labeled 15 year old boys perverts.
>#3- John Bult- Julies Sixteenth Birthday
This photo appears to have been taken closer to Julies 27th birthday, but lets pretend we are idiots for a minute. In the world of visual communication, you have to worry about things like the feeling an image evokes. I *think* they wanted this to be a picture of a father consoling his young daughter on her sweet sixteen because she got pregnant or something. Im not a father, but Id guess you do stuff like that when your daughter turns sixteen. What I see when I look at this picture is a married guy (wedding ring) in a bar (beer and cigarette), holding hands with a girl who is twenty years his junior. She has been in the trunk of his Camaro for two or three days, and he made her put on lots of makeup so he could get her in to the bar for a date. He is busy insisting that she loves him, or will grow to love him if she knows whats good for her. She silently screams for him to stop squeezing her hand so hard and just let her go. The absence of eye contact says it all. She is praying for the sweet release of death.
I agree. Mostly FBI dudes posing as 15 year old girls (though I don't know how they handle the 5 o'clock shadows in the pictures).
"Obviously you are blissfully ignorant that you just labeled 15 year old boys perverts."
Having once been a 15 year old boy, I have no problem with that label, quite frankly. [grin]
