Buchanan - The stealth amnesty of Rep. Mike Pence
Townhall ^ | June 13, 2006 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 06/13/2006 6:06:00 AM PDT by rcocean

Pence calls his plan a "middle ground" proposal, a "no amnesty immigration reform" in which "securing our border is the first step."

This is fraudulent. At the heart of the Pence plan is amnesty. Illegal aliens here return to Mexico for one week with an assurance they can come back to their jobs. Down there, they visit "Ellis Island Centers" to register as "guest workers" and return with "work permits." The illegal are made legal and put on a path to citizenship.

The only difference between the Pence plan and the Kennedy-Bush amnesty is the one-week vacation employers would happily fund, as it means blanket amnesty for them as well as their illegal hires.

No , Buchanan was a man way ahead of his time .

Yeah no doubt, like the time he basically wrote in his book that he thought that hitler was not a threat to western civilization.(rolling eyes)

Nice try...but you failed again, since they both grant amnesty. One just does it quicker than the other one.....just as PB states.

buchanan and his ilk refute themselves...now I'd love to stick around and practice circular arguments with you but it's too much like trying to talk to the hamster in it's wheel...you folks sure do scurry a lot but never get anywhere.

Enjoy your day of continued irrelevance.

Pence's plan is No Amnesty? Under Pence's plan there is no path to citizenship. All the illegals have to go home and they can't come back unless they have an employer willing to hire them. After being screened by private companies (which makes it more effective than any government bureaucrat) to ensure they are not felons or terrorists, they become "legal workers" and not legal citizens.

They have to leave after 2 years unless they can pass standard english tests and recite our national anthem. Then they can only stay for 6 years which they must return home or register for citizenship the legal way. All the while we get our borders secure, build our fence, enforce the law, and crack down on employers who hire undocumented workers. Sounds like a principled plan to me.

Save your breath. Apparently Pence is the new Bush. Not sure if they switched the flavor of the Kool-Aid though.

JMO, pat buchanan would grant amnesty to eichmann and mengale.

But to pat buchanan, Jose or Maria(fellow catholics BTW), picking vegetables or building shelter, are the evil in the world.

JMO, pat buchanan is warped, no wonder he is the pet "conservative" amongst the liberal press elite in DC.

His rants serve them well.

Yup, falsified documents, illegal entry into our country....tax cheats...theft of taxpayer funded social services...

All this is just fine and dandy with an illegal apologist like yourself.

Thanks for showing your true colors once again.

Back to the topic at hand though... do you care to dispute what PB says or just waste a bit more bandwidth here on FR?

Could you please show me where pat buchanan's heroes and whom if he was King, IMO, grant instant amnesty and pardon, to mengale and eichmann, did such good things that benefitted people.

People aren't debating Pat's "points" because Pat doesn't offer any "points"... He just calls Pence "Tessio" -- a traitor, an enemy -- and refers to his plan as "stealth amnesty" which is just a little charged, wouldn't you say?

Whether you like it or not, Congress is an organization built on compromise. Even the great Ronald Reagan recognized that and he compromised his way to the most sweeping changes accomplished by an American president in my lifetime.

Now Pence is trying to find a middle ground in the illegal immigration debate -- but something more sound than Bush's plan which, as we know, is dead. So what did Pence do? He enlisted the bright folks at the Robert Krieble foundation to help think through the problem. Here's a link to Pence's presentation at Heritage when he announced this plan... http://www.heritage.org/Research/GovernmentReform/hl839.cfm
... you can also check out the credentials of Krieble at the bottom of the article. Just to sumamrize: Krieble used the fortune he created from Loctite to help pursue causes he thought important. One was helping the Reagan Administration execute the war on the communists by secretly getting fax machines into Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union in the 1980's... This became a key means of informing people there about the truth and Reagan's fight to defeat communism. It gave the captives on the other side of the Iron Curtain great hope.

Now with respect to Pence: his plan tries to solve all the most intractable problems in the immigration debate and he employs the private sector in the process. By setting up these Ellis Island centers, he creates legal and privately operated entrance points for guest workers and immigrants applying for green cards and/or citizenship. I won't repeat all the details, but you can read about it (I wonder if Pat has read the details).

I think this problem needs to be solved. President Bush has been faced with more than his share of intractable problems and time-bombs. To his credit, he has tried to deal with most of them (reforming social security being a great example; pursuing the war on terror being the most challenging). He has failed miserably on a number of fronts (overall spending; the No Child Left Behind Act). On illegal immigration, he got behind the curve and the growing outrage flamed in part by guys like Pat and Sean Hanity.

Mike Pence is about as rationale and right-thinking as they come and I think he has a very valid plan. For Pat Buchannan to dismiss it as a Godfather treachery is just despicable -- but so typical of Pat.

Only Nixon Could Go to China, and Only Pence Could Sell Amnesty to the House

Buchanan is right for a change. It is amnesty.

Uh I am sticking to the topic, the writer of this article, pat buchanan, who by his writings is a nazi symapthizer, just like ted kennedy's old man, bootlegger joe kennedy.

"Mike Pence is about as rationale and right-thinking as they come and I think he has a very valid plan."

He does have the absolute best plan out there. But, it STILL provides a pathway to citizenship and to be truthful, can be called "amnesty".

No you are not. Re-read the Title of the thread. It is specifically about the Mike Pence immigration plan.
