Pence calls his plan a "middle ground" proposal, a "no amnesty immigration reform" in which "securing our border is the first step."

This is fraudulent. At the heart of the Pence plan is amnesty. Illegal aliens here return to Mexico for one week with an assurance they can come back to their jobs. Down there, they visit "Ellis Island Centers" to register as "guest workers" and return with "work permits." The illegal are made legal and put on a path to citizenship.

The only difference between the Pence plan and the Kennedy-Bush amnesty is the one-week vacation employers would happily fund, as it means blanket amnesty for them as well as their illegal hires.

Pence's plan includes HR 4437.

What's The Department Of Justice Doing About Identity Theft And Fraud?

The Department of Justice prosecutes cases of identity theft and fraud under a variety of federal statutes. In the fall of 1998, for example, Congress passed the Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act . This legislation created a new offense of identity theft, which prohibits

knowingly transfer[ring] or us[ing], without lawful authority, a means of identification of another person with the intent to commit, or to aid or abet, any unlawful activity that constitutes a violation of Federal law, or that constitutes a felony under any applicable State or local law.

18 U.S.C. § 1028(a)(7). This offense, in most circumstances, carries a maximum term of 15 years' imprisonment, a fine, and criminal forfeiture of any personal property used or intended to be used to commit the offense.

Schemes to commit identity theft or fraud may also involve violations of other statutes such as identification fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1028), credit card fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1029), computer fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1030), mail fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1341), wire fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1343), or financial institution fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1344). Each of these federal offenses are felonies that carry substantial penalties in some cases, as high as 30 years' imprisonment, fines, and criminal forfeiture.

Federal prosecutors work with federal investigative agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Secret Service, and the United States Postal Inspection Service to prosecute identity theft and fraud cases.

Here are some examples of recent cases:

Central District of California. A woman pleaded guilty to federal charges of using a stolen Social Security number to obtain thousands of dollars in credit and then filing for bankruptcy in the name of her victim. More recently, a man was indicted, pleaded guilty to federal charges and was sentenced to 27 months' imprisonment for obtaining private bank account information about an insurance company's policyholders and using that information to deposit $764,000 in counterfeit checks into a bank account he established.

Central District of California. Two of three defendants have pleaded guilty to identity theft, bank fraud, and related charges for their roles in a scheme to open bank accounts with both real and fake identification documents, deposit U.S. Treasury checks that were stolen from the mail, and withdraw funds from those accounts.

Middle District of Florida. A defendant has been indicted on bank fraud charges for obtaining names, addresses, and Social Security numbers from a Web site and using those data to apply for a series of car loans over the Internet.

Southern District of Florida. A woman was indicted and pleaded guilty to federal charges involving her obtaining a fraudulent driver's license in the name of the victim, using the license to withdraw more than $13,000 from the victim's bank account, and obtaining five department store credit cards in the victim's name and charging approximately $4,000 on those cards.

District of Kansas. A defendant pleaded guilty to conspiracy, odometer fraud, and mail fraud for operating an odometer "rollback" scheme on used cars. The defendant used false and assumed identities, including the identities of deceased persons, to obtain false identification documents and fraudulent car titles.

How many Americans can get the same deal?

thank you for your in-depth, and while i can agree with your points, i also believe buchannan does make a valid point in his assessment....it seems that a policy or situation only gains real debate when the 'inflamers' take up the case and force the MSM to take up the case themselves or be left behind ...

although congress is a body of 'compromise', compromise on illegal immigration has already been 'compromised': back in '82....we are again addressing the very same compromise today with another 'compromise'....

if we do not have these 'radicals' like pat and sean hannity proposing radical solutions opposing those on the other side of the spectrum, the so-called 'moderate' final solution will be very much like the current senate bill and we simply end up with another political bandaided cut and run.....

we need to address national security FIRST, and we need to get a fence up on the border AND keep the national guard there on patrol, complimenting the border patrol....the current scenario is just another scam by the administration giving lip service, bluster, and misdirection by having the guard on the border, but without sidearms, and prohibiting them from detaining those trying to come over illegally....

the MSM tell us that the guard are blocking thousands from coming over, but once those south of the border see that they cannot be detained by the guard and that the guard do not carry arms, you'll see droves of them brazenly walking right by the line....

and speaking of fences, anyone ever heard of fence cutters? those silly little snips? i believe they make these in mexico, since practically every other manufacturing job here has gone south....so a fence will do little if it's got human size holes cut every half mile unless it is backed by armed guards....

we can view those here illegally the same way we view enforcing most laws: we don't simply stop them on the street and ask them for identification, but if for any reason they are detained by law enforcement, and found illegal, they will be deported, and that includes those pushing 'anchor babies' up and down the street....rather than give these illegals amnesty, we will enforce the law, and not agree to a change in the law....those here now, stay at their peril....

if we keep 'compromising' every time the illegal situation gets to an exploding point, and offering 'assimilation' to thos here illegally, before yours and my children have grandchildren, they will be living in the united states of mexico....mark my words....
