Pence calls his plan a "middle ground" proposal, a "no amnesty immigration reform" in which "securing our border is the first step."
This is fraudulent. At the heart of the Pence plan is amnesty. Illegal aliens here return to Mexico for one week with an assurance they can come back to their jobs. Down there, they visit "Ellis Island Centers" to register as "guest workers" and return with "work permits." The illegal are made legal and put on a path to citizenship.
The only difference between the Pence plan and the Kennedy-Bush amnesty is the one-week vacation employers would happily fund, as it means blanket amnesty for them as well as their illegal hires.

There will always be problems in the future. It is not healthy to always focus on them. Looking at the negatives is "being a defeatist". Think positive and all good things will happen to you.
There is no real objective Truth. Only what the majority decides as truth is truth. Facts are in the eye of the beholder. Verbal engineering has become a fine art in our culture. Our elected officials will look out for us. Go along with the crowd and all will be well.
Support amnesty and don't be so stressed out over this one issue that probably does not effect you. If it does effect you, then it s*ucks to be you. Well, maybe not. The only people this problem effects negatively are people who have a obsessive complusive disorder when it comes to laws and rules. Bend them when it suits you and you will look at the world differently. You life becomes much easier. The problem becomes the people who are for enforcement of laws and who are for tighter restrictions on freedom. Remember one of the tentants of free trade is the free movement of labor throughout the world. If you oppose illegal immigration, you are anti-free trade (an isolationist, protectionist, defeatist, negative xenophobe). And you don't want to be one of those, now do you?
Exactly, because Bachanan is opposed to Pence's Plan, it must be a great plan.
Sorry, Freudian slip.
Buchanan, not Bachanan. Bachanan does have a nice ring to it. Bach is a paleo-musician. Classical music is old fogie music. Buchanan is a paleo-politician. Paleo-politicians are not up with the times.
OK You changed my mind.
Now you are popular and most important, Fred Barnes forgives you. Work to unite all Republicans behind amnesty.
So you're saying HR 4437 is an amnesty scheme now?
You people are becoming unhinged.
So, is Pat telling the truth or is he telling a lie? If the Pence bill is written as Mr. B states, it is the truth and therefore not BS. Right?
If it doesn't pass, it'll be either because of the myopicness of conservatives who want the pie-in-the-sky border enforcement only or the Senate/administration will still reject it. I hope it's the latter and not the former.
Neither. Mr. Buchanan is being disingenious and is not looking at the big picture.

Seriously, does the Pence bill require only a week away to qualify for amnesty or not?
re: posts 141 - 143.
funniest posts I've read on FR in a long time...
Gawd, I love "over-the-top" sarcasm.
:)
What book? Do you have a link?
We don't need a plan. We need enforcement. Pence is triangulating like Clinton. That has become the new way to govern in America.
Anything that turns illegals into legals overnight is amnesty regardless of the "penalties" involved.
After the borders are certified secured, there's a week window to apply for the guest-worker provision.
There is no amnesty here. You guys are worse than the liberal media, sheesh.
Pence's plan doesn't turn illegals into legals "overnight."
Pence's plan includes HR 4437.
Keep on smoking the crack pipe....
myopicness? LOL. That's a word conjured up by a RINO.
The Senate Reps voted 32 to 23 AGAINST the Senate bill and the Dems voted 39 (including Jeffords) to 4 FOR it. For every Rep that voted for the bill, there were almost two Dems who voted for it. In the House, 203 Reps voted FOR the bill and only 17 against it. The House Dems voted AGAINST the bill 164 to 36. Why should the conservatives compromise with a predominantly Dem bill championed by the likes of Kennedy and McCain?
Conservatives want an enforcement FIRST [not only] bill and see no need to address comprehensive immigration reform until we can have secure borders, including an enforcement system that tracks down and deports visa overstays. We were burned once with Simpson-Mazzoli in 1986. Never again.
The Dems and RINOs are trying to stampede the conseratives into accepting a flawed bill that gives amnesty to law breakers. The Dems see future voters and union members and the RINOs a plentiful supply of cheap labor. The Conservatives are worried about the long terms effects of illegal immigration, increased legal immigration, and national security. It is indeed sad that secure borders are seen as a "pie-in-the-sky" objective.
I'm saying what I wrote.
You people are becoming unhinged
I'm sorry you cannot defend the merits of massive amnesty betrayal schemes like Ted Kennedy's Senate bill or Pence's Tijuana Shuffle.
