It's the principle of the matter. If they request her appearance and pay for it, that shows *their* dedication to the truth.
If she pays her own way, that makes her a nutcase. See how these things work?

She was willing to do that. He just doesn't want her there. You don't just show up to testify before Congress --- they have to call you.
