Ann Coulter Banned in New Jersey?

Two New Jersey Democrats are pushing to have Ann Coulter's new book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," banned from all bookstores in their state because she criticized four 9/11 widows known as "the Jersey Girls."

In a joint press release issued Friday, New Jersey Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender say they want New Jersey retailers to "ban the sale of [Coulter's] book throughout the state."

"Ann Coulter's criticism of 9-11 widows, whose only desire since the attacks have been to repair their shattered lives and protect other families from the horrors they have experienced, is motivated purely by petty greed and hate," the two Democrats complained.

"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books . . . She is a leech trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others."

Quigley and Stender conclude:

"No one in New Jersey should buy this book and allow Ann Coulter to profit from her hate-mongering. We are asking New Jersey retailers statewide to stand with us and express their outrage by refusing to carry or sell copies of Coulter's book. Her hate-filled attacks on our 9-11 widows has no place on New Jersey bookshelves."

Had the same experience. Barnes & Noble workers are notoriously rabid loony left (at least in New York anyways).

Considering the number of B&N clerks with jewelry in their eyebrows in suburban PA, I'd think it extends outside NYC

When they use their position as gov't officials to push this, then yes, it's violation of free speech.

No, it is not...point me to the law that says if you're a politician you must surrender your opinion or ability to persuade by FS?

It's the same as when the ACLU or the Dems claim that some government worker who displays a cross or a "Merry Christmas" statement at their work station, or a state flag that has some kind of Christian symbol is violating the "establishment clause" of the Constitution.

All the ACLU arguments are bogus because the part in question begins, "Congress shall make no law . . . " The display of Christmas greetings and other Christian symbols are not, in any stretch of the imagination, attempts of Congress to establish any one religiion over another.

From another point of view, it is like the current flap over Chaplins in the military praying in Jesus' name. Or, schools having prayers at graduation. Now we have a "Senior Opening," and "Closing Remarks." These were both prayers, plainly addressed to "Our Father."

I agree with you that these are not violations of the Constitution, but they are claimed to be by the same libs and Dems that now want to "ban" Coulter's book.

Do you see my point?

They are representatives of the government asking for a boycott. That is censorship, and as such it is a violation of the Constitution. It would be very different if they were private individuals asking store-owners to boycott the book; that would be fully legal and acceptable.

Definately. What is happening is MSM/DBM ignor the "spirit" of constitutional principles, why?
Libs know very well that Prayer and the mention of God in PUBLIC is not a constitutional violation, but the secularist do NOT want any judgements placed on their lack of vitues or moraless behaviors.

What is so ironic about this: "Idea Of America," is that it ceases to exist without acknowledging God. Remove Him and you destroy the Idea. It is imperative that we fight these secularist whether they be Lib or Conserv, it doesn't matter.

Godlessness, is exactly what Libs try to establish, and because of their abject failures, America has survived. Ann's book has exposed one more of their bankrupted thrust on the people.

Please point out the portion of the Constitution that says an elected official can't call for a boycott of something. Sorry, but this is not censorship or a ban.

And similarly, Freepers have the Constitutional right to respond to such utterances with calls for the the politician's censure and/or removal from office.

Exactamundo.

Or maybe YOU are political hacks trying to profit off of perverting the suffering of others? That's pretty much Coulter's whole point.

I really hate living in NJ - our politicians are a disgrace (Toricelli, McGreevy, these two imbeciles, etc.).

But whenever I get down about how bad NJ politicians are, I just think about Massachusetts, and I fell MUCH better.

Jersey Girls had a lot to do with the 911 commission being independent and leaning far to the left. Ironic that Daschle appointed Jamie Jorelick as its head commissioner? It is not Politically Correct to debate with the Jersey Girls, Cindy Sheehan or Michael Berg ya know because of their so called grieving issues.

Keeping the PC stuff in mind Jamie Gorelick being involved in scandal bigger than Enron with the Fannie Mae scandal it would also not be very PC to attack the Jamie Gorelick because she would fall under the umbrella of the Jersey Girls.

Just Like Ann Coulter States "You cant go after Joe Wilson either because his wife was a so called secret agent."

Intellectual honesty is always important. If Arnold Schwarzenegger makes a speech, it is not the doctrine of the California state government. If Barbara Boxer or Dianne Feinstein makes a speech, it is not the doctrine of the United States Senate. If John McCain makes a speech or a graduation commencement, it is not the doctrine of the New World Order/World Trade Organization/United Nations.

The United States Constitution tells us how to make and enforce laws. The tenth amendment tells us that the states make laws that do not fall under the US code. The New Jersey State Constitution does not let rogue members of its assembly to make laws "ad lib." A bill has to be written, passed by the legislative body, and signed by the Governor.

I do not have a learning disability. Intellectual honesty is only good and well if it is practiced all of the time.

When you find a law, any law, that governs the active practice of malfeasance, you let us know. Until then, you are trying to play "outhouse attorney," and arguing in bad faith as far as I'm concerned.
