"I had prepared to meet Ann Coulter with the aim of finding out how on earth any human being could turn out to be so extreme. What was her upbringing? When had she formed these opinions? Why was she so angry?
Reporterette reveals blatant bias..... of course, almost any lib/left journalist is going to view any conservative as "so extreme"...... hey, dippy reporterette, how about we conduct an inquiry to determine how on earth any human being can be SO VAPID as you and most of your fellow libs?

Ann did say that to a Vietnam vet. A founder of Vietnam Veterans Against the War, whos name escapes me at the moment. He was a disabled vet in fact but not from combat, from an accident (possibly of his own making) while still in service. He was a John Kerry type, trashed the country, the troops, the war etc. then was highly irrate that she called him on it and trotted out his service record and injuries, much like the Jersey girls in proclaiming you cant question me, Ive suffered tragedy.

Actually the echange was with this Viet Vet who made the absurd claim that 90% of all land-mine casualties were from U.S. made land-mines .
(there was a report that claimed that most of the Viet Cong land-mines used parts from salvaged from Americans weapons and ordinances)
After he made that remark, Ann said: " with guys like you, no wonder we lost the Viet Nam War"
Kind of justified if any Vet makes a stupid and erroneous statement like he did !

I caught that distortion right away as well.
Those who read the book will know better, and hopefully understand her very valid point.
Those who wouldn't read it anyway will keep spewing nonsense and fomenting misconception.

>>Yes! It is curious to see Ann's expert use of linguistic decor, her razor-sharp metaphors and high-style hyperbole pass right over the head of this lofty Brit columnist. But there are moments you can tell that he (or she? Gaby?) just doesn't get it.<<
It does not matter, we Americans should not care what some Leftwing Rag like The Observer nor it master, The Guardian,
thinks !
The only ones who care are the liberal elites in Nuke York Mass Media !

No sane person would suggest a wife reveled in the tragedy of that day, but the 4 Jersey girls certainly have enjoyed the celebrity aftermath.
The Jersey Girls may or may not have reveled in the deaths of their husbands, but they definitely revel in their celebrity status as agents of the Democratic Party.

Ya suppose the airlines will let you carry on dry ice and a center cut? Probably not, since they make such a big hairy deal out of moving it as cargo:
Carbon Dioxide, Solid, 9, UN-1845, PGIII
Passenger aircraft maximum permitted quantity 200 KG (440 lbs) flying under packing instruction 904.
IATA Packing Instruction 904:
Carbon dioxide, solid (dry ice), when offered for transport by air, must be in packaging designed and constructed to permit the release of carbon dioxide gas and to prevent a build-up pressure that could rupture the packaging.
The net weight of the Carbon dioxide, solid (dry ice) must be marked on the outside of the package.
Arrangements between shipper and operator(s) must be made for each shipment, to ensure ventilation safety procedures are followed. The Shipper's Declaration requirements are only applicable when the Carbon dioxide, solid (dry ice) is used as a refrigerant for dangerous goods tha require a Shipper's Declaration. When a Shipper's Declaration is not required, the information for the Carbon dioxide, solid (dry ice) must be contained in the "Nature and Quantity of Goods" box on the air waybill, excluding the packaging instruction number and packaging group.
Maybe you should just not mention it to anyone. ;-)

To a Vietnam veteran 'People like you caused us to lose the war.'
That could have been made to John Kerry, not the average grunt. That far out of context, who knows?
I'd like to see that one in print, and in context before I judge it one way or the other.
For the most part, Ann is right on target.

Ann is usually funny, but talking about the personal relationships of 9/11 widows with their husbands is a losing topic to comment about. There is no way to win in a debate like that.BUT that is precisely her point!
She is decrying the way the left hides behind people who cannot be argued with because of their "victimhood" and then uses those people to proselytize their talking points.
"Mutha" Sheehan is another prime example.

The writer, Gaby Wood, seems to rely heavily on Robert Alterman to provide the smear quotes against Coulter. Alterman is a far left university professor (what else?) who has written a number of books in favor of leftist causes. However, when Alterman states that Anne was fired by MSNBC after criticizing a paraplegic Vietnam veteran, he is correct. Whether it happened during a commercial break is another question.
What actually happened was that Coulter and the veteran, a man named Cullen, were set up to debate the Vietnam war. Cullen was the leader of an anti Vietnam war group, in much the same way as Kerry was. During the debate, Coulter said to Cullen, speaking about his views, "No wonder you guys lost the war". It was for that remark that she was fired.
You will notice that her offense was in doing what she complains about in her new book; she had the temerity to attack the views of a designated victim whose opinions, like those of the Jersey girls, are beyond debate.
To: sinkspur
Coulter made a choice a long time ago, she's acting on that choice, and would never have it any other way. She would die without the publicity and, now, without the money. Yeah. She's a fraud. She's not really the person she claims to be. :)

"These comments notwithstanding (except for the one wrt a Vietnam Vet which I don't believe she ever said)"
- I'm afraid she did. Please see more info. in my post 116 or Google: "Anne Coulter, bio."

Every article I read about her goes into great detail about what a sense of humor she has, how tall, how blonde, how thin, yada yada yada - even this one says it of other correspondents, but she (I think it's a she) still fails to point out the sheer bloody-minded viciousness that spews from Coulters maw every time she opens it. I hope she does have a stalker, and goddess forgive me, I hope he meets up with her one night in some dark corner of Manhattan.

many thanks....but in 'criticizing' a handicapped vet, was she criticizing his Views or the fact he was Handicapped? i suspect the 'views'....so the entire thing was a sham, whether it was on air or backstage.......how can you debate someone without criticizing their position/views?
