Imagine that a Republican seeks his party's endorsement for the U.S. House of Representatives, despite having been allied with a white supremacist organization just a decade earlier. Imagine that this candidate had once sarcastically proposed setting aside certain states for white citizens and had shared a stage with a speaker known for excoriating Jews as "bloodsuckers." You're right. That man wouldn't get his party's endorsement. He would probably want to go into hiding after the howl of negative media coverage.
So how did we get Keith Ellison?
State Rep. Keith Ellison of Minneapolis is the DFL-endorsed candidate for the Fifth District congressional seat. In this DFL bastion, that means that -- barring a primary loss -- Ellison will succeed Martin Sabo when Congress reconvenes next year.
Ellison's background is, shall we say, unorthodox. He is a former outspoken supporter of Louis Farrakhan's notorious Nation of Islam, a virulently anti-white, anti-Semitic organization once led by Black Muslim leader Elijah Muhammad.
Ellison came to public attention in 1990, when, using the name Keith E. Hakim, he defended Farrakhan in a Minnesota Daily article while a law student at the University of Minnesota. In another 1990 Daily column, Ellison claimed that splitting America into two nations, with five Southern states set aside for blacks, would be preferable to "liberal social programs."
"Black-white interaction would be voluntary instead of compelled," he wrote.

I'm glad to see that someone has posted this.
Unfortunately, I live in the 5th District and will be crossing over to vote in the Dem primary (in September) to keep this fanatic from winning.
If he wins the primary, he's as good as elected to Congress - because the 5th District is strongly Dem.
Fort those of you out there who want to follow what other troubles Ellison (and other Minnesota Democrats) has been into, I recommend this web site:

He combines the required qualifications of a Democrat -- liar, bigot and racist.
He almost makes Rangel and Conyers sound like moderates.
Heaven help us all.
God help you. Move up here to 6th district.
I only remember him from sitting in Senate chambers listening to one of the million debates on the Minnesota Personal Protection Act. He was one of the smuggest jackasses there. Always ready to mock anyone who would consider carrying a gun for self protection.
Ever since then I thought he was a punk.
I'm not exactly entralled with some of Ellison's primary competition either.
I'd likely not vote for Mike Erlandson, the former DFL party chair.
Former state senator Ember Reichgott-Junge is a radical feminist - although she is kinda hot looking for 52 years old.
That leaves Paul Ostrow, a Mpls City Council member, a liberal policy wonk. I despise just about everyone who is on the Mpls City Council.
The hard choice is trying to decide which Democrat offends me the least. IOW, I need to select someone who will only make me sick 90% of the time as opposed to 100% of the time.
I'm going to cross over in the primary too. I suppose we'll learn who the strongest Democratic challenger will be closer to the election, but who would that be? Erlandson seems to have stirred up some bad blood among some of the DFL party regulars.
This bum could win the primary based on the "primary rule" which says : In Republican primaries the candidates to the right win, and in the rat primaries the most anti American scumbags win. It would be great. If he gets in we can point to him and make points to underscore what the rat really stands for.
It's gonna be interesting wtching the DFL'ers tear into one another.
Whoever wins this seat will likely hold it as long as they want to. That's why the primary will be a no-holds barred, large-scale butt-kicking contest.
Each primary candidate in the DFL has a definite base of supporters:
Ellison - Blacks on the North Side
Reichgott-Junge - women and liberal feminists
Erlandson - party workers and Sabo's supporters
Ostrow - Nordeast Mpls
The primary will be won in Wards 7, 10, 11 and 13. Those are high-voting areas in Mpls. If one of these candidates can make inroads in the first-ring suburbs (Richfield, Crystal, etc), they could solidify their position.
Erlandson and Ostrow stand the chance of splitting the white male vote also - unless one of them drops out. That could allow Reichgott-Junge or Ellison to squeak thru.
Ostrow would probably be the least objectionable, no?
