NASHVILLE (Billboard) - Initial ticket sales for the Dixie Chicks' upcoming tour are far below expectations and several dates will likely be canceled or postoned.
Ticket counts for the 20-plus arena shows that went on sale last weekend were averaging 5,000-6,000 per show in major markets and less in secondaries, according to sources contacted by Billboard. Venue capacities on the tour generally top 15,000.
In contrast, the band's new album, "Taking the Long Way," sold 526,000 units...
Despite those numbers, early ticket sales are clearly not meeting projections. The plug was pulled on public on-sales for shows in Indianapolis (August 23), Oklahoma City (September 26), Memphis (September 27) and Houston (September 30) because of tepid pre-sales in a national promotion with Target stores.

That article failed to mention that most of the tickets for the 2003 tour were sold BEFORE the DC caught foot-in-mouth disease.

I was noticing that too. All of a sudden Time and USA Today et. al. just decided to do big features on the Dixie Chicks. I'm sure it was just a coincidence. (Yeah, right)
They could have had all that, if they had only been willing to "make nice". But they weren't ready, and they had to rub their audience's nose in it.
Well, if that's the way they want to play it, that's the way it's going to be. Actions have consequences, and in this case it is going to wind up costing the Chicks dearly.
It's a shame, because I really like their music. If they had just been a little bit apologetic, I would probably have seen their show. But if they want to wallow in the stew of self-pity mixed with self-righteousness, well good riddance to bad rubbish, I say.
BTW, St. Louis has been postponed, as well. Due to overwhelming demand in Canada, England and Australia, of all things...

Heh. So, "taking the wrong way" seems to be leading the chicklets down a rough stretch of road. Perhaps they should have stopped to ask directions. Very interesting that the bogus hype of album "sales" is clearly not being reflected in ticket sales. Wonder if they'll try to come back and "make nice"?
Yep. I went to that concert just because I had shelled out the money and it was at a point I thought they were going to just let it go. It was actually a pretty good concert.
Wouldn't go now... I just hate that they did this. I really liked their music but I can't justify supporting their behavior financially.
No, her husband is American of Iranian-German descent. Adrian Pasdar (sp?). I've seen him on Judging Amy.
If they had just freaking let it go, I might have been willing to buy this album. She made her statement in England. She obviously believes it.
All she had to do was ride out that first firestorm and quit talking about it. THAT's what turned me off. All of the followup interviews back in 2003. This new album just seals the deal for me.
I don't have to agree with you to listen to your music, but I'm not going to pay you money to tell me I'm stupid because I don't agree with you....over and over and over.
All they had to do was act like adults. Respectfully acknowledge that they don't agree and move on.

If the Dixie Chicks are struggling in several markets, that means they are doing well in other markets. Is this an indicator of how dumbed down our schools are, or the empty-headed apathy of their fans? I have heard better singing in the Church choir and that is free.
