CBS/AP) Two London-based members of the CBS News team, veteran cameraman Paul Douglas, 48, and soundman James Brolan, 42, were killed and correspondent Kimberly Dozier, 39, was seriously injured Monday when the Baghdad military unit in which they were imbedded was attacked. They were reporting on patrol with the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, when their convoy was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED).
The attack was among a slew of car and roadside bombs left about three dozen people dead before noon Monday, including one explosion that killed 10 people on a bus. Nearly all the attacks occurred in Baghdad.
Dozier and her crew are among the latest American television journalists to become casualties in Iraq. Former ABC News "World News Tonight" co-anchor Bob Woodruff and cameraman Doug Vogt suffered severe injuries in a roadside bombing in Iraq Jan. 29, 2006. Woodruff is still recovering from serious head injuries and broken bones. Cameraman Vogt has returned home to France for more rehab.

No mention of any military casualties (WIA/KIA). Seems unlikely, unless the CBS crew was the specific target of the attackers. Even then, somebody had to be driving the vehicle they were in, and likely someone else, possibly more than one, would be "riding shotgun", perhaps literally. Since my next door neighbor is 4th ID and currently deployed, as are many others in the neighborhood. I've got more than a casual interest in the matter.

The trio was only planning to be out for a few hours, in order to get back to the CBS Baghdad bureau in time to edit their piece
Following what the U.S. military is calling a "curious incident" in the Karada neighborhood of Baghdad, Dozier, Douglas and Brolan got out of their armored vehicle. That's when a nearby car packed with explosives detonated. Douglas and Brolan died at the scene.
Don't hold your breath. Even their own people are expendable in The Cause.
You're right, but these are Americans. I've no idea what the camera man or the sound man's politics are and I don't care. They died in the war.
She's reporting how some Iraqis feel, not necessarily how she feels. Although her reportage does have that flavor at times. Come from having Muslim professors at grad school.
As to the accuracy of her report, I'd only note that some older Russians still feel that way about Stalin.
It looks like the CBS reporterette and friend HALTED the convoy so they could FILM a report by the side of the road.
Apparently a car bomber saw the stopped convoy as a target of opportunity and drove his car to the location and detonated his bomb while the CBS team was filming.
CBS isn't telling the whole truth about what happened.
On a day where we honor our troops I couldn't stomach the thought being distracted by focusing on any members of the disingenuous disgusting drive by media that have helped our enemies with their propaganda campaign.

CBS needs to come clean about what really happened.
That doesn't follow at all. The media often uses local "talent" for the support crews, cameramen, sound-men etc. Even though this CBS team didn't seem to (possibly because they were embedded) More likely the terrorists have infiltrated the media, as little as that might seem to be necessary. They also certainly have their own "embeds" within the Iraqi military. It's also possible that their were Iraqi military in the convoy as well, so any terrorists back at the base of the Iraqis could also have provided the targeting information.
Still it's possible that the support staff, some locals some from 3rd countries, at the American's base is providing the information.
Semantics. My use of the word "military" was imprecise. I meant only that the hostiles seem to have advance knowledge of where media people will be so deadly traps can be laid. Whether it's local talent or spies in the embed system, I'd focus on smoking them out.

So it's dangerous. They don't seem to be bothered by the danger when they report the negative stuff, they should be reporting the positive stuff as well.
Of course we don't know that they aren't reporting some of the good stuff and that it ends up in the bit bucket, or "The Spike". (allusion to the novel of the same name by Arnaud De Borchgrave and Robert Moss. De Borchgrave was wounded several times as a reporter in Vietnam. A theme of the book is how the editors decide which news is "fit to print". Nothing which harms the anti American Cause. BTW, he's Flemish not French )

Perception and Symbols are not reality. The statement concerned how some Iraqis perceived Saddam, not the reality of Saddam.
That said she is a left winger, who apparently never met a terrorist she didn't like...at least she became a target because she was a Western Infidel and an American.
